Background

The Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) is a leading not-for-profit organization assisting women, children, and families in the New York tri-state area to recognize and eliminate relationship violence and abuse. Our counseling, education, advocacy and support services help individuals empower themselves to build safe and healthy relationships based on mutual respect, compassion and dignity. Each year, over 2,500 individuals benefit from one or more services that we provide. All our services are culturally sensitive, linguistically appropriate, and free. KAFSC has a dynamic team of 53 staff (17 full-time and 35 part-time) and an annual operating budget of 2.6 million dollars [ www.kafsc.org].

The Director of Development (DD) develops strategies to increase and strengthen KAFSC's funding base and is responsible for fund development for the organization. As the key development personnel of the agency, the DD will work closely with the Executive Director and staff to identify, measure and celebrate success measurements agency-wide along with clear communication of these to staff, funders and KAFSC constituents. In addition to cultivating new donors and funding opportunities, this position will help oversee marketing strategies for promoting and expanding the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Grant

  • Identify, assess new grant opportunities and strategically pursue grants
  • Conduct research and write grant proposals for government, foundation, and corporate funding
  • Understand the domestic violence related funding landscape and cultivate relationships with new funders
  • Craft and prepare programming budgets for proposals
  • Maintain relationships with existing funders and cultivate new funding sources
  • Work with Executive Director and Director of Programs & Admin and Finance Team to process and ensure grant award and contract conditions are implemented correctly

Fundraising & Communications

  • Provide timely receipts of all donations and effective tracking through DonorPerfect
  • Oversee all aspects of annual gala and other special fundraising/donor events
  • Develop a strong visual front for KAFSC through a clear, unified brand in coordination with the Communications Coordinator
  • Supervise two full-time staff - Special Event/Communications Coordinator and Grant Writer - and ensure alignment of all aspects of gala and fundraising campaign planning and implementation
  • Work closely with Fundraising/PR Committee and Executive Director to develop strategies to create new avenues for contributions
  • Identify, cultivate and manage major donors and secure incremental individual giving
  • Develop and oversee effective annual appeals and Chinjung Monthly Giving Campaign

Administration/Other

  • Understand the bigger vision of the organization
  • Work closely with Financial Manager to project annual income sources for the organization’s operating budget
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and workshops as needed
  • Attend external events and affairs to represent KAFSC as needed
  • Create community outreach and education opportunities for our work
  • Support and actively participate in agency-wide outreach activities
  • Assist Executive Director with various administrative tasks

Qualifications

  • BA, BS or advanced degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 3-5+ years of experience required
  • Strong writing, research, and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to provide leadership in fundraising and public relations
  • Detail-oriented and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Maturity, collaborative attitude, and positive attitude
  • Knowledge of DonorPerfect a plus
  • Commitment to social services, social justice, and women’s issues
  • Familiarity with the issues of the Korean or/and immigrant community
  • Computer/Internet proficiency (MS Office Suite)
  • Marketing or PR or IT experience is a plus, but not required
  • Bilingual preferred (English & Korean) but not required
  • Level dependent on experience
