Primary Purpose of the Job:

The Senior Director of Human Resources serves as a leader of the HR team overseeing the execution of key HR initiatives by way of - providing HR operational excellence, serving as a culture and engagement driver, managing our L&D initiatives and serving as a people champion by fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for all Food Bankers.  Working across all Food Bank locations, this role will provide thought leadership to department heads and leaders.

The Senior Director of Human Resources will serve as a forward-thinking leader, by identifying and implementing initiatives that advance efficiency and culture. Reporting to the VP of Human Resources, the Director will take an active partnership approach to providing solution based expertise in resolving HR challenges. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the VP of Human Resources drive - strategic HR planning, the people and culture function, compensation planning, employee development, succession planning, and performance management.

·        In partnership with senior leadership and other stakeholders, implement an innovative, progressive, and values-aligned vision and framework for the people & culture function.

·        Play an essential role in advancing a positive, inclusive, and accountable work environment through our hiring, learning, promotion, and retention practices.

·        Help define, launch and manage new org-wide initiatives that include:

o   A DEI strategy fostering an environment that supports, attracts and retains diverse employees; and

o   A L&D program that accelerates the skills development and overall contributions of our talent

·        Develop and lead L&D initiatives that align with business goals, talent strategies, and meet all compliance requirements.

·        Serve as an ambassador to advocate for the value and continued growth of learning initiatives within Food Bank.

·        Create comprehensive communication plans that create awareness of learning tools and opportunities.

·        Oversees an effective recruitment process with a focus on diversity and inclusion that consistently identifies and secures talented individuals committed to the organization's mission and core values.

·        Keep the pulse on how we work, understanding the strengths and weaknesses of our culture, ensuring it is designed to deliver on our overall objectives.

·        Oversee a robust onboarding program that successfully integrates new employees into Food Bank’s mission and operations.

·        Liaise with managers to support retention and career growth for all employees.

·        Work closely with leaders and employees to establish and maintain a positive work environment, improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention.

·        Interpret and assist in the implementation of HR policies, practices and procedures.

·        Oversee standard reporting and develop ad hoc reports as needed to support business needs.

·        Review and analyze metrics and trends in alignment with organizational strategy and values.

·        Handle complex performance management issues (coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions, terminations, and appraisals), career development, and conflict management. Provide leadership and support with employee complaints and investigations.

·        Participate in the annual performance appraisal process, ensuring the fair and timely evaluation of all employees.

·        Support the internal communication vehicle whereby all-staff are made aware of human resources initiatives, policies and procedures. Support the dissemination of individual, team, and organizational successes, strengthening our unity of purpose.

·        Continually monitor all Federal, State and local regulations and HR best practices and recommends appropriate changes in company policy or procedures.

·        Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR certification strongly preferred.

·        Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in Human Resources gained through increasingly responsible management positions.

·        Experience specializing in employee engagement, Learning & Development, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

·        Knowledge of human resources best practices, employment law (State, Federal and NYC legal requirements), employee relations, compensation/benefits, etc.

·        Demonstrated experience developing a strong culturally diverse workforce.

·        A participatory leadership style that encourages collaboration, cooperation and personal growth.

·        Creative, enthusiastic, proactive and strategic thinker with a flexible and diplomatic approach to re-thinking issues and shifting positions, when necessary.

·        Exceptional written and verbal communications skills; excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail and follow through.

·        Demonstrated independent judgment and problem-solving skills.

·        Rock solid integrity and ability to manage difficult situations with professionalism and tact.

·        Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization and across multi-cultural and generational backgrounds.

·        Strong computer skills and knowledge of HR management systems. UltiPro experience a plus.

·        As needed, willingness to travel between three company locations in Manhattan and the Bronx.
