POSITION: The Literacy Lab is seeking a hard-working, organized, resourceful, full-time Program Coordinator to support its programs and operations. The Program Coordinator ensures successful implementation of The Literacy Lab’s programs by supporting full-time tutors, program delivery, and partner school sites. This Program Coordinator also identifies problems, manages projects with limited supervision, and occasionally supports other organizational operations. This position is an excellent opportunity to join an entrepreneurial, fast-moving team and a high-performing nonprofit dedicated to closing the literacy achievement gap.

ABOUT THE LITERACY LAB: The Literacy Lab is a fast-paced, Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide low-income children with individualized reading instruction to improve their literacy skills, leading to greater success in school and increased opportunities in life. We partner with school districts to add capacity in high-need schools to close the literacy achievement gap for children before third grade.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Program Coordinator is responsible for the following:

  • Managing a diverse and highly impactful cohort of full-time literacy tutors with limited supervision from the Program Director
  • Supporting the implementation of The Literacy Lab’s programs and ensuring that tutors are successful and have a positive experience in the program
  • Provide excellent support and communication to a caseload of school principals and coaches
  • Supporting regional programming to promote advancement, fulfillment, and development of tutoring corps, including facilitating training and ongoing professional development and planning meaningful service and social events
  • Ensure that tutors have ample opportunities for additional service, meaningful professional development, and leadership
  • Working with Literacy Lab staff to plan and organize training institutes and ongoing training for tutors and coaches
  • Manages projects to completion with limited supervision from the Program Director including maintaining tracking systems in order to meet program goals
  • Managing components of the recruitment of a diverse team of high-performing, full-time tutors
  • Monitoring and managing student and tutor data for timeliness and accuracy
  • Serving as the Regional Onboarding Lead and managing tutor files, timesheets, and other program elements in compliance with AmeriCorps requirements
  • Serving as an ambassador to build support for The Literacy Lab with prospective funders, schools, MSA, and community partners through site visits and events.
  • Participating in professional growth and development activities to grow management autonomy
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking candidates with:

  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail and deadlines
  • Passionate about learning and incorporating an antiracist approach in all aspects of work
  • A deep commitment to equity, inclusion, justice, and the celebration of the richness of diversity
  • The ability to work flexibly and independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude
  • Strong professional communication skills
  • A deep commitment to closing the achievement gap
  • Experience in education and/or with high-need communities is preferred
  • Good working knowledge of Google and Microsoft Office 2010 (or later) software, especially Word and Excel
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred
  • Social Media experience, preferred

WORK LOCATION: This position will be based in Springfield, MA.

TRAVEL: This position may require out-of-town travel with notice for training, staff events, and conferences.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: The salary range for this position is $43,000 – $46,000. Benefits include a flexible work environment, employer-paid health and dental insurance, employer-paid short and long-term disability, employer-paid life insurance, a 403b retirement plan, and paid vacation.
