    Reports to: Chief Finance Officer

    Located: Administrative Office in Ontario, California

    Classification: Exempt Salary: $68,640.00 - $75,000.00

    PRIMARY FUNCTION:

    The Staff Accountant is an integral member of the SCDF team and manages vital financial integrity and account management of SCDF funds, grants, and donations under the direction of the CFO. The Staff Accountant ensures accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance with relevant regulations for our not-for-profit organization with annual gross receipts of $2.5 million.

    KEY ROLES:

    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and relevant nonprofit accounting standards.
    • Oversee and manage restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring appropriate allocation, tracking, and reporting for all sources of income.
    • Work closely with program managers to track grant expenditures, prepare grant budgets, and ensure compliance with grant agreements and donor restrictions.
    • Assist in the preparation for annual audits, working with external auditors to ensure the accuracy of financial records.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including timely filing of IRS Form 990 and other required reports.
    • Collaborate with the finance team and program managers to prepare and monitor the organization’s budget and financial forecasts.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining internal financial controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure proper stewardship of funds.
    • Support preparation of detailed financial reports for donors, showing the use and impact of funds, while ensuring transparency and accountability.
    • Work with CFO to maintain the accuracy of the general ledger and financial systems, ensuring data integrity and timely reconciliation of all accounts.
    • Collaborate with leadership on the process for identifying and evaluating opportunities for improved financial operations, recordkeeping and reporting.
    • Assist leadership in preparing budgets for grant proposals that fit into the organizational strategy.
    • Attend additional committee and board meetings in a supporting capacity as needed.
    • Represent the organization as a supporting member of the leadership team.

    RELATIONSHIPS:

    Internal: interact regularly with Chief Finance Officer, the finance team and leadership/program managers regarding accounting and/or financial aspects of the SCDF.

    External: Maintain contact with external auditors, vendors, insurance carriers, and other groups.

    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or business administration, or equivalent
    • Minimum 1+ year of responsible work experience managing accounting functions
    • Previous work experience within a non-profit agency preferred
    • 3 years of experience with QuickBooks Online accounting software. Additional experience with other similar accounting software such as Abila MIP, Sage, Great Plains preferred.
    • Thorough knowledge of budgeting and accounting practices, processes, and procedures of non-profit organizations
    • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Strong organization and analytical skills
    • Consistent attention to detail
    • Advanced knowledge and utilization of Excel
    • Strong computer literacy to include use of MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and more
    • Ability to interact professionally with SCDF staff, Board members, volunteers, and other related agencies

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • Ability to remain stationary for long periods of time
    • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading
