The Director of Student Support Services ensures that ICS meets the needs of students, by creating systems and events that foster positive school culture. He/she supports our families and staff through active communication. 

This position is ideal for someone who is knowledgeable about elementary education and has a background in either teaching, school leadership, school counseling and/or social work with youth. The ideal candidate will be passionate about meeting students needs, developing and supporting adults in meeting student needs and helping to define and strengthen school culture.

About you:

Reporting directly to the Principal you will be responsible for providing leadership for the implementation of school culture. In addition to providing direct services to students, you will be entrusted to coordinate, supervise, evaluate and design school wide systems while being a member of the school Leadership Team.

Your initiatives will include:

  • Define and strengthen key factors for positive school culture
  • Create and implement school wide systems and events.
  • Maintain records for school discipline (infractions, suspensions, incidents of bullying) and provide summary data to the administration to inform decision-making and strategy;
  • Serve on the school’s administrative team and support in decision making across the school community
  • Conduct peer and family mediations and provide opportunities for restorative interactions after infractions or incidents occur;
  • Design tier two intervention support plans and manage communication with families for students who struggle academically or behaviorally;
  • Diagnose needs and provide targeted professional development to the full faculty, new teachers and the culture team as needed
  • Work collaboratively with other department heads and facilitate department meetings;
  • Represent school to key community partners and external vendors
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to ensure the continuance of a positive school climate, including planning special events and assemblies;
  • Serve as an active member of the school leadership team and participate in regular leadership team meetings.
  • Work closely with academic department heads and social services to support high-achievement academic culture
  • Coach teachers as needed and appropriate
  • Assist teacher leaders (e.g., coaches, grade team leaders) in developing leadership skills.
  • Model the ICS professional and core values at all times; be a visible and highly engaged leader in the school community

Qualifications:

  • Firm belief in youth development framework and commitment to working with diverse populations a must
  • Experience managing a team is a plus
  • Experience teaching or work in school culture is a plus
  • Familiarity with a Responsive Classroom, SEL competencies, Response to Intervention model, Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) model, and social work or counseling experience are plusses
  • MSW or Equivalent academic qualifications 
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
