Founded in 1990, Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-approved counseling agency, whose mission is to empower low- and moderate-income Brooklyn residents to secure quality housing and build financial assets. NHN is committed to providing the highest quality of service in order to educate and counsel low income and working New Yorkers so they can help themselves; organize people so they can act collectively and help one another; network with other community organizations; and serve as an advocate and conduit for resources to the communities it serves. NHN achieves this mission through a combination of homeownership and tenant services, as well as organizing and advocacy around local and citywide campaigns that align with a vision of safe, affordable housing in the Brooklyn communities NHN serves. NHN is an affiliate organization of the Fifth Avenue Committee.
Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC), an award-winning, 40-year-old, South Brooklyn-based, non-profit community development corporation and NeighborWorks America member whose mission is to advance economic and social justice. FAC develops and manages affordable housing and community facilities, creates economic opportunities and ensures access to economic stability, organizes residents and workers, offers student-centered adult education, and combats displacement caused by gentrification.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) is seeking an enthusiastic, full-time Program Assistant to provide administrative, office and marketing and outreach support to its Homeownership Counseling Program working with first time homebuyers, homeowners facing foreclosure or needing assistance to maintain their homes.
Customer service: serve as the first point of contact for the program, answering phone calls and responding to email inquiries; manage enrollment for Homebuyer Seminars; assist with scheduling and confirming one-on-one financial counseling appointments.
Document review and follow-up: review participant intake packages for completeness; assist counseling staff with follow-up for missing documents. Maintain detailed tracking of completeness of files, entering information timely into database(s) as needed.
Event support: provide planning support for outreach events; attend events and help with set-up, greeting, tabling, troubleshooting, clean-up, and other duties as needed.
Outreach and marketing support: post and manage social media content designed by program staff; assist with mail and e-mail campaigns including developing content, as needed; coordinate off-site printing; help program staff to research new marketing leads and contacts.
General office/administrative support: help with correspondence, typing, filing, photocopying, faxing/scanning, maintaining participant files and other general administrative duties. Enter participant information into database(s) and files in a timely and accurate manner.
Other duties as assigned.
· High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
· Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Word, Excel, and social media.
· At least two years of relevant customer service, office administration or related work
· Familiarity with personal financial documents such as tax returns, bank statements,
and pay stubs a plus.
· Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive personal and financial information professionally and confidentially.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability to engage with moderate-income program participants effectively.
· Able to work well as part of a small team as well as independently.
· Highly-organized, detail oriented, self-starter able to multi-task while meeting deadlines.
· Demonstrated commitment to NHN and FAC’s missions.
$38-41k annual salary; NHN offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance benefits (following a 90-day waiting period), voluntary flexible spending plan, 403b retirement plan, and paid leave time including 18 vacation days and 12 sick days.
