The Organization

Women’s Empowerment International (WE) was founded in 2005 with a mission to empower extremely poor women with economic tools to work their way out of poverty, support their families and strengthen their communities. WE now has 7 non-profit partners in five countries including the U.S. (California and Puerto Rico), Mexico, Honduras, Haiti and Uganda. WE partners provide determined women with the funding, tools, training, and assistance they need to start small businesses and improve their lives. WE also serves a dedicated donor community by offering education, engagement opportunities, and the chance to financially support a trusted portfolio of carefully-researched, impactful poverty-alleviation programs. WE is governed by a dynamic Board of Directors and other vital support is provided by a team of volunteers. Operations are conducted by a small staff including the full-time Executive Director, half-time Assistant Director, and part-time independent contractor.

The Position

The Executive Director leads all organization activities including the following key responsibilities:

  • Implements existing strategic growth plan and monitors progress towards objectives and goals
  • Develops and executes annual fundraising plan to meet budgeted revenue goals
  • Stewards relationships with donors; builds pipeline of new supporters and expands donor base
  • Develops annual communication plan including written appeals, brand strategy, and messaging to donors and the broader community
  • Serves as organizational spokesperson and lead representative promoting WE with the media and community events
  • Maintains ongoing relationship with partners and volunteer partner liaisons. Supports efforts to identify new partners and manage existing partnerships
  • Cultivates and maintains strong positive relationships with Board of Directors, and volunteers
  • Supervises staff and develops collaborative and high-functioning team. Oversees financial and administrative duties

Qualifications

  • Passionate about WE’s mission and committed to the effort to alleviate extreme poverty for women.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing a fund development plan including the achievement of stretch goals and growing both new and existing funding sources (individuals, grants, corporations, giving circles, events etc.).
  • Demonstrated superior and compelling writing, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated success managing a donor database including working familiarity with constituent relationship management software.
  • Digitally savvy with solid exposure to social media.
  • Experience managing a small staff to accomplish organizational objectives.
  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 5 years nonprofit management experience or equivalent and at least two years in a senior management role.
  • Highly self-motivated to grow and expand WE’s impact.
  • High degree of professionalism and ability to impart a visionary, big picture perspective.
  • International experience with charitable related missions is a plus, but not required.

 Office Location: The position is home-based and requires virtual and/or in person meetings with staff, Board members, partners, donors, and other volunteers. When in-person meetings are possible the Board meetings take place in a female-focused coworking space

Compensation: Base salary $80,000 - $100,000 commensurate with experience plus benefits including medical and retirement allowance and paid vacation, sick and holidays.
