Professional Field Staff: Monroe

The Louisiana Federation of Teachers, LFT represents school employees at every level of elementary and secondary education in Louisiana. The LFT seeks to employ a dynamic, self-motivated individual to coordinate, direct, and actively participate in membership recruitment and representational programs and activities to move locals toward collective bargaining status. The person employed will be required to reside in the Monroe area and be headquartered out of the LFT office. However, the successful candidate must also be able and willing to travel as directed throughout the state.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Evidence of successful membership recruitment at job site is required.
  • Work experience in a local Federation chapter with experience in school settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Computer experience necessary.
  • Must be well organized, self-motivated, and be able to manage multiple tasks which may involve different time lines.
  • Able to travel. Professional position requiring evenings and weekend work as necessary.
  • Willing to locate in Monroe area
  • Proficient computer and social media skills
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic and assertive. Effective public speaking before teachers, school employees and school boards is an essential requirement of this position. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruiting new Federation members and training and inspiring members to build their respective organizations will be a high priority. 
  • Will be required to conduct daily school level group and individual meetings for the purpose of building organizational structure and recruiting new members.
  • Represent Federation members in due process matters at all levels of school system as necessary. 
  • Work cooperatively with leadership of LFT locals to develop membership and advocacy programs, and assist with production and dissemination of union publications
  • Develop and coordinate political action activities designed to address local issues.
  • Work with other LFT employees on cooperative projects.
  • Other job related duties as assigned

Newly hired employees will serve a one-year probationary period as per the staff bargaining contract. 

Salary is determined by the contract between Louisiana Federation of Teachers and Professional Federation Staff of Louisiana.
