Description

We are seeking an experienced and committed individual to join the agency’s dynamic and fast-paced Development department. We are in search of a full-time Development Officer (Institutional Giving), responsible for foundation, government, and corporate fundraising. This high profile role works closely with Senior Staff, and reports directly to the Director of Foundations and Government. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of foundation and government donors
  • Steward current relationships and identify and approach new prospects for cultivation and solicitation
  • Periodically monitor lapsed relationships for renewal opportunities
  • Write compelling grant proposals and timely reports to secure new commitments and renewals
  • Secure meetings and coordinate site visits with donors and prospects
  • Work closely with the administrative and program staff to gather the necessary information to ensure proposals and reports are comprehensive and compelling; follow up with leadership as necessary to ensure accountability
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of our extensive network of programs along with emerging events and initiatives, to ensure full understanding and accurate representation when communicating to funders
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 – 5 years foundation and government fundraising experience required; New York fundraising, including City and State contracting a plus
  • Impeccable writing skills with a particular strength, and demonstrated ability, writing compelling public and private grant proposals
  • Proven track record in prospect management and charitable foundation solicitation
  • In depth experience working with Raiser’s Edge
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work well under deadlines
  • Willingness and flexibility to support emerging priorities within the department
  • Outstanding oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail
  • Openness and adaptability to a dynamic department workflow and culture
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook
