Reporting to the Policy and Communications Director, the Membership and Content Manager is responsible for managing strategy and implementation of MADRE’s membership program, supervising our Membership Coordinator, and managing our internal systems to track and generate content for membership communications. A successful candidate will have strong writing ability, experience with membership programs and individual fundraising, and ability to effectively manage projects within and across teams.

Primary roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Proposing and implementing strategies to meet fundraising and retention targets for <$1,000 donors, including around list growth and donor retention
  • Liaising with Development team on major donor strategy
  • Supervise Membership Coordinator in creation and implementation of direct mail, e-appeals, and donor relations strategy
  • Assisting with creation of core messaging on MADRE's program work, and ensuring consistency across platforms
  • Liaising with Program staff to generate content for membership communications, including project updates and proof of our impact
  • Coordinating with fundraising consultants to implement direct mail program
  • Working with communications staff and external vendors/consultants to manage production schedules for membership communications across platforms: print and online
  • Drafting and editing membership content, including direct mail, newsletter, email and website communications
  • Monitoring and evaluating our membership communications and fundraising efforts, tracking reach, impact and fundraising
  • Creating strategy for membership events and serving as point person in event planning
  • Developing internal systems for information sharing and for tracking and archiving membership materials

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of development or communications experience with a proven track record of fundraising from individuals and managing a successful membership program
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to manage many distinct areas of work at once
  • Strong research, writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to message complex issues creatively and clearly
  • Commitment to women’s rights and progressive social change, and knowledge of the focus areas and regions in which MADRE works
  • Supervisory experience
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Prior experience with donor databases, preferably eTapestry
  • Ability to work under pressure with competing priorities and deadlines
