About Fresh Youth Initiatives (FYI): FYI assists immigrant and first-generation youth to reach their greatest potential. Founded in 1993, FYI operates programs across four sites in Washington Heights/Inwood where 1400 children participate in afterschool programs, summer camps, service learning, advisory, clinical services, and college access programs. We offer the tools, supports, and caring relationships that children and teenagers need to navigate life transitions, connect to their community, flourish in school, and get on track to college and career.  

About the Position

The Youth Practitioner will join a hard-working team of social workers, educators, and other youth practitioners who provide outstanding services to children, teens and families. The best candidates will show strong engagement skills, a positive and proactive attitude in working with youth, and imagination and skill in leading activities and groups. This job requires a hands-on, highly interactive person who can have fun with kids while also modeling clear boundaries and positive values.

Specific responsibilities include:

§ Plan and implement ongoing groups based on your skills and interests (e.g., peer support groups; service learning groups; recreation, performing arts, literacy, STEM learning; college access

§ Engage youth through outreach, and within agency environment

§ Work with FYI colleagues and participants to sustain a safe, caring, FYI environment

§ Participate in annual overnight camp trips (one weekend and one five-day trip upstate)

§ Use existing, published curriculum, as needed

§ Document and organize work
