Brooklyn Boatworks is looking for a part-time Summer Sailing Instructor, assisting young New Yorkers in sailing aboard 7 foot student-built Optimist Pram sailboats on the East River. Successful candidates are expected to: provide sailing instruction and/or team-building activities for NYC children aged 5-15; help with set-up and break-down each day; and support the Program Coordinator in developing, carrying-out and enhancing the sailing program.


The mission of Brooklyn Boatworks is to encourage, inspire and empower young people through the unique craft of wooden boatbuilding and on-the-water experiences. Our vision is a New York City where all children have the opportunity to experience the rewards, accomplishments and thrill of hand crafting and sailing their own boat. We teach and promote the values of learning by doing, cooperation, perseverance and craftsmanship.


You are a strong candidate if you:

·        Are an expert sailor

·        Have experience teaching young people to sail

·        Enjoy working directly with young people who have never sailed

·        Strive to be an excellent mentor and role model

·        Are able to facilitate small group work

·        Are able to take direction and work collaboratively

·        Desire outdoor work in and around a NYC waterway.
