ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

Global Cities, Inc., a Program of Bloomberg Philanthropies, has unique experience in public schools using technology to forge connections worldwide among students and educators that promote learning through our Global Scholars program. There are no fees to schools. The Global Scholars model of peer connections features teachers at the center, and technology that supports learning. It is based on educators’ experience that digital connections drive learning and promote student engagement. Students value having a “real audience” —from countries around the world—and the opportunity to learn from one another’s work. The discussion board posts and replies provide a new primary source that all students use to learn about global issues and how their global peers understand and engage similar challenges. Interaction with peers is an incomparable motivator for kids, whether the connections take place in the local classroom or across national borders. This is a different kind of learning experience than instruction that takes place inside the four walls of a physical classroom and shows how technology offers unique opportunities for learning through dialogue and collaboration. We have gathered empirical evidence that these connections develop the skills that students need to be successful in today’s globalized world. We are seeking a talented, experienced educator to join our dynamic team as we continue to implement Global Scholars, evaluate the impact of this work, and share our findings with diverse audiences.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Education Program Manager will join a team of accomplished educators that implements the Global Scholars digital exchange program. They share responsibility for the following core activities: 1) Examine e-classroom discussion boards to identify student work that demonstrates Global Cities’ student learning outcomes and to inform curriculum design and educator professional development; 2) Design and deliver interactive professional development for teachers by videoconference; 3) Serve as primary point of contact for district leaders, school administrators, and teachers in assigned cities to provide implementation guidance and manage enrollment; 4) Conduct outreach presentations with prospective U.S. and international school districts; 5) Assist in annual creation of original curricula about global problems such as food security, clean water, and protecting the natural environment; 6) Participate in the development of evaluation metrics, such as student and educator surveys; 7) Assist with data collection and analysis related to key program metrics, including enrollment, e-classroom activity, and professional development attendance.

In addition to the above shared responsibilities, all team members take a leadership role in a few of the Education Team’s many different program areas. These include: e-classroom operations and student work analysis; intern team management; program data; relationship management with participating cities; outreach to prospective cities; curriculum development; professional development; program enrollment; monitoring and evaluation. These assignments are informed by the team member’s experience, skill, and interest in different education sub-fields such as culturally-responsive pedagogy, curriculum-based teacher training, education evaluation, and digital technologies in school-based and online classrooms.

Reporting to the Education Program Director members of the Education Team operate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Work requires both frequent team meetings, small-group collaboration, and independent activity.
