Title:  Licensed Clinical Social Worker Supervisor

Units:   1) Better Living Center, an OMH-Licensed Article 31 Outpatient Clinic, &

               2) Treatment Services, an OASAS-Licensed Article 32/822 Outpatient Clinic

Reports to: Senior Director, Behavioral Health

Status: Full-Time Regular/; Exempt

Location: Long Island City

Days/Hours:  TBD

Position Summary:

This position is essentially dual-role. One role facilitates day-to-day clinical aspects of Fortune Society’s two behavioral health clinics via providing clinical supervision to staff, reviewing junior staff documentation, addressing administrative tasks, stepping in to assist with occasional client crises, etc. The other role is as a clinician, see carrying an approximately 50% caseload of clients and providing clinical services to clients with a range of diagnoses. Fortune Society is moving to increase collaboration and staff integration among the two co-located clinics (although it has not ((yet)) obtained an Integrated Operating Certificate) and this role is expected to facilitate the process. The role will report to the Senior Director of Behavioral Health

The successful candidate will also have demonstrated a commitment to using respectful, constructive means of communication when interacting with clients and colleagues. The individual will utilize a strengths-based, person-centered model and endorse the concept of looking for the best in people, rather than judging them by their worst decision(s).



The successful candidate will possess excellent clinical experience, personal maturity and judgement and therefore will be comfortable occasionally being a visible face for the clinic, making clinical decisions and being able to explain and justify those decisions to clients and other Fortune programs. The person will be an excellent communicator, in both written and verbal interactions. The person will understand that leadership is most effective when it is exercised through constructive support and mentoring. The person should be effective in their own time management skills and clinical documentation habits such that they are able to mentor others to learn those skills.


Clinical Expertise

This person shall demonstrate knowledge and hands-on experience in treating a wide variety of mental health diagnoses, as well as experience working with co-occurring substance use diagnoses. Successful candidate will have experience working and treating persons with trauma histories, and in using both cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches to therapy. Importantly, this person will be comfortable working in non-clinical language as a means to make themselves and the clinical process more accessible to clients who may find traditional “clinical-ese” off-putting. The person should be comfortable interacting with persons experiencing strong emotions and skilled at de-escalating such persons when appropriate. Familiarity and comfort with making decisions regarding need for emergency services for suicidal ideation, psychosis, etc is important. Person should also have strong familiarity with relevant medications.


Clinical Engagement & Productivity Skills

This person shall demonstrate strong history of engaging clients in treatment and building a meaningful therapeutic relationship. This includes the ability to pursue reluctant clients with aim of establishing a rapport, and creating a stable and productive caseload. Additionally, candidate will have integrated concurrent and collaborative note-writing into their clinical practice and be able to successfully teach others how to do the same. The person will understand and accept the reality of having clinical productivity requirements, and shall be constructive in helping staff achieve them.

The person will have good computer skills, familiarity with an electronic health record system and minimum 40+ wpm typing skills in order to facilitate completing all documentation correctly and in a timely manner

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·   Ensure that clinical staff are conducting themselves in clinically effective, ethical and safe manner in all their interactions with clients through formal supervision, informal discussion, and review of clinical paperwork.

·  Promote the clinical growth and diversification of skills among clinic staff.

·   Work to promote constructive collaboration among staff (intra-clinics, inter-clinics and with Fortune’s non-clinical programs).

·   Collaborate with administrative staff and supervisor to ensure that all aspects of clinical operations are in compliance with regulations and Fortune Society Policy & Procedures.

·   Carry a part/time caseload.

·   Collaborate with supervisor to ensure upward flow of ideas, information and suggestions. 

·   Other duties as assigned.


·   LCSW or PhD in Social Work or Psychology is required.

·   Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical practice required.

·   Experience working with wide variety of mental health diagnoses required, experience with substance use and/or co-occurring diagnoses is desired.

·   Credentialed with Medicare and Medicaid is required, and no background events that prevent billing and receipt of payment for services provided.

·   Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as overall interpersonal skills are required.

·  Experience with supervising full-time clinical staff is required. Experience with mentoring new professionals in fundamentals of engagement and documentation is desired.

· Solid Microsoft office skills; experience with electronic health record, and typing of at least 40wpm+ is preferred.

· Experience with Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a plus.

·  Knowledge of OMH regulations in outpatient Mental Health Clinics (Article-31) as they impact clinical practice is required.

· Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.


Travel Requirements: May require infrequent travel to our Harlem location.
