Vermont Legal Aid is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer to support VLA's mission by building organizational capacity to develop and sustain a Community Legal Education Project. Community Legal Education (CLE) promotes the principle of equal access to justice by recognizing that legal awareness and education is a crucial component of creating a just legal system that is responsive to people living in poverty. CLE is based in popular education and adult learning approaches to social justice that emphasize the role of education in building community and individual empowerment in the fight against poverty.
We are searching for applicants who think creatively and strategically, with excellent communication and organizing skills, and a passion for education, community organizing and social justice. Successful applicants will be self-directed and must excel at working both independently and collaboratively. We expect that education and outreach initiatives will include access to health care; educating new Americans about the tax system, affordable housing, and housing discrimination, as well as topics identified and developed by the VISTA.
This position is located in the Burlington office of VLA and starts in the fall of 2018.

4. Writing Sample
Writing samples should generally be between 2-5 pages. If your writing sample is longer, an excerpt of that piece is fine. Writing samples that deal with social justice and demonstrate critical thinking ability will be the most useful.
