Planner

The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities.

Operating out of Bronx County Criminal Court and the surrounding community, Bronx Community Solutions (BCS) offers criminal justice programming in the areas of pretrial diversion; misdemeanor and non-violent felony defendants whose cases are pending; and alternative to incarceration programming for non-violent crimes by providing additional sentencing options for offenders. These programs reduce the reliance on pre-trial detention and short-term jail sentences and offer defendants the assistance they need to avoid further criminal conduct.

Bronx Community Solutions is looking for a bright, energetic self-starter to join the team. In this newly created role, the Planner will work closely with the Project Director, senior management team, and the Center’s operations team to develop, run, and support all criminal justice programming. The position will include substantive administrative responsibilities and provides an opportunity to help shape criminal justice practices while working closely with key stakeholders, including judges, prosecutors, defense advocates and city and state officials. The Planner will lead or participate in planning and fundraising efforts for new initiatives; coordinate or participate in the team’s project management on new and existing projects; and develop a close knowledge of Bronx Community Solutions’ programming and organizational structure. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Administrative & Communications
• Provide administrative support for Bronx Community Solutions’ management team, including but not limited to organizing conference calls and meetings, documenting and circulating next steps, editing documents, and assisting with the submission of fiscal reports;
• Support the Project Director in managing daily administrative and strategic operations, including tracking progress on a wide range of initiatives;
• Manage creation and submission of funder reports, grant proposals, policy papers and articles, and other materials for a wide range of internal and external audiences;
• Assist management team with lobbying, advocacy and creating relevant materials and media to communicate BCS’s impact to city and state elected officials;
• Develop and implement a social media strategy for BCS across a variety of platforms, including the creation and coordination of regular social media content;
• Help coordinate development and assessment of protocols, procedures and best practices for new and existing initiatives;
• Draft reports and prepare presentations and materials for internal and external meetings, leading the facilitation of these meetings as needed;
• Project Management
• Help coordinate the development and implementation of new initiatives at Bronx Community Solutions, such as early diversion programs, alternatives to incarceration, and community justice initiatives;
• Act as the liaison between the Center for Court Innovation’s Criminal Justice team and operating project staff during project planning, development, rollout, and management;
• Work closely with the Center for Court Innovation’s operations team to ensure all Bronx-specific projects are aligned with the overall mission, goals and strategy of the Center’s criminal justice programs;
• Additional relevant tasks, as needed.
