About the opportunity

Springboard Collaborative invites talented and passionate candidates to apply for the position of Executive Director for the East Coast region, which spans Washington, DC to Massachusetts. The Executive Director will be responsible for establishing new partnerships through direct district-level sales and local fundraising in addition to nurturing a portfolio of established partnerships. A successful candidate will be an exceptional relationship builder and networker, and will bring a customer-centered, solutions-oriented mindset to regional strategy and interactions with potential partners.

The Executive Director will report to the Sr. Director, Partnerships and work as part of the Partnerships Team at Springboard, which includes Sales, our team of Executive Directors, and Development. This is a great opportunity to support an entrepreneurial team in maximizing the impact of a rapidly growing organization.

Diversity is more than a commitment at Springboard Collaborative—it is the foundation of what we do. We are fully focused on equality and believe deeply in diversity of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin, and all the other fascinating characteristics that make us different.

We believe that these diverse communities must be centered in our work. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities.

Who we’re looking for:

  •  Relationship cultivation & stewardship: Sales, business development, and fundraising are all about relationships. EDs must be deft, proactive, and persistent relationship-builders. EDs will envision the potential in every partnership, and they will build relationships in order to steer toward that destination.
  • Customer orientation: EDs are committed to deeply understanding and fulfilling the needs of customers (current and prospective). They continually seek to understand and solve schools’ problems. EDs think like customers (school leaders, district leaders), and their approach to partnership development is rooted in this mentality.
  • Dogged and creative pursuit of goals: EDs continually problem solve in order to reach their goals. EDs are persistent, optimistic, and forward thinking. EDs are always pursuing opportunities for growth; their revenue pipeline is full and meticulously managed.
  • Ability to zoom in and out: EDs must tend to the details without losing sight of the big picture.  A successful ED will manage multiple tasks while keeping a critical eye on the most high-priority activities that align to overall strategy.

How you’ll accomplish this:

  • Steward a portfolio of district/network partnerships
  • Steward key relationships at schools, districts, and charter networks.
  • Retain and grow current school partners by finding new ways to meet their evolving needs through Springboard’s programs, services, and supports.
  • Establish close collaborative relationships with Springboard’s program team to ensure partner satisfaction and renewal.
  • Drive new business development
  • Develop a regional growth strategy to guide your work that maps a pathway to helping more kids reach their reading growth goals year over year.
  • Identify creative ways to establish warm dialogue with prospective partners.
  • Increase enrollment in Springboard programs by prospecting, pitching, and closing new business with school districts and charter networks.
  • Generate leads and advance conversations with prospective partners by actively participating in educational conferences, regional coalitions, and other relevant forums.
  • Take ownership for meeting sales and revenue targets across the region.
  • Critically review work on an ongoing basis, revising the strategy when needed and communicating changes and results to the internal team and applicable external stakeholders
  • Raise funds to support regional growth
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with key program officers, individual philanthropic leaders, and corporate social responsibility teams whose priorities align with our mission.
  • With support from development colleagues, ensure fundraising targets are met or exceeded each year in order to fuel continued expansion.
  • Develop and manage a local advisory board to leverage your revenue generation efforts.
  • Represent organization externally
  • Raise Springboard’s profile through active participation in local educational coalitions.
  • Seek opportunities to represent Springboard and promote its impact at the state and municipal level with an eye towards deepening our influence and opportunity in the region.

About Springboard

Children typically spend 75% of their waking hours outside of the classroom, yet our education system does shockingly little to capture instructional value from that time. Parents’ love for their children is the single greatest—and most underutilized—natural resource in education.

Springboard Collaborative has cracked the code on activating and equipping low-income parents to teach at home. Since launching 8 years ago, we have grown Springboard’s reach from 40 to nearly 15,000 students across 22 cities and 700+ schools. Amidst rapid growth, Springboard consistently delivers best-in-class results. Students average a 3-4-month reading gain during each 5 or 10-week cycle, closing the gap to grade-level performance by more than half. Weekly family workshops average 91% attendance. Springboard’s work has recently been featured by Forbes, NPR, and the New York Times.
