Providence Connections strengthens families and enriches lives through comprehensive education and developmental opportunities for parents and children. Our center, located in the Northside of Pittsburgh, now serves over 400 local North Side families through child care services, after-school care, family support, parent and adult education, in-home visitation and family counseling.

Providence Connections is seeking a Family Development Specialist who is responsible for providing direct service to 20-25 families who have children ages 0-6. This service helps parents in dealing with difficult life events and setting personal goals. The direct service will include home-visits, goal planning, advocacy and referral to link the family with any needed outside services. The Family Development Specialist will keep accurate case notes and files on each family, demonstrate a practical knowledge of child development and understand that relationship building is the key to successful progress.


Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Develops trusting productive relationships with 20-25 parents and their children to provide advocacy, support and coordinated services linked with Providence Family Support Center.
  • Conducts bi-weekly home visits to work with parents to set realistic goal plans, increase their understanding of child development and develop parenting skills.
  • Conducts child development assessments (ASQ) for children birth to 5 with intensive case management families every three to six months as recommended.
  • Fulfills all case management duties and responsibilities which include but are not limited to the following:
  1. Coordinates visitations with Children, Youth and Family Services
  2. Coordinates visitations with Children, Youth and Family Services
  3. Provides housing advocacy and referral
  4. Provides mental health advocacy and referral
  5. Participates in case management meetings
  6. Maintains case records and files and enters all data in county Synergy system.
  7. Provides accurate follow-up as needed
  •  Participates in recruitment activities as needed in order to maintain caseload of 25 families.
  • Helps plan and facilitate Parent Child Together monthly groups.
  • Participates in special events, holiday celebrations and Family Unity Nights to interact with families and build trusting relationships.
  • Participates in weekly supervision with the Director, staff meetings, development and training.
  • Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Director.


Education / Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Human Services or other related field
  • Two years home visiting experience
  • Experience in strengths-based human service delivery approach
  • Knowledge of Social Service systems in Allegheny County
  • Act 33/34 and FBI clearances
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must possess initiative, productivity, creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Ability and willingness to work evening and occasional weekend hours
  • Ability to work as a team member
