Description

In collaboration with the Chief Education Officer/Director, Weill Music Institute, this position is responsible for the development and implementation of WMI’s social impact programs, including Future Music Project, NeON Arts, Musical Connections, and Create Justice.

 

He or she will participate in the ongoing creation of WMI’s vision for these programs, and will oversee all aspects of program planning, implementation, and assessment, including management of extensive public/private, organizational and artistic partnerships. The Director will report to the Chief Education Officer/Director, Weill Music Institute and will manage social impact programs staff, currently 6 full-time positions, over a dozen part time staff, and long-term consultancies, as well as overseeing program budgets. The position includes substantial collaboration with Carnegie Hall Public Relations, Marketing, and Development teams on communications and government relations.

 

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience with and proven ability to develop effective community-based programs and to grow and sustain meaningful relationships within communities, including partnerships with the public sector, artists and institutions
  • Be familiar with social issues as they pertain to music, creativity and the arts, including relationship management with networks or partnerships for collaboration and distribution, including the voice of young people and participatory design, family and community engagement, and use of technology
  • Experience with creative youth development and youth leadership
  • Experience with systems-involved people and organizational partnerships. Work in the criminal justice system a plus
  • Experience with social justice practice
  • Significant experience in forward-thinking artist training, thinking about the effective education of the whole musician/artist
  • Significant experience in creating effective concerts and artistic events for social impact
  • Significant experience with budgeting
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills
  • Sophisticated collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
