POSITION DESCRIPTION


Randall’s Island Park Alliance, Inc. (RIPA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works with the City of New York and local communities to provide an innovative and exciting destination through a wide range of sports venues, public programs, cultural events, and environmental exploration. As the dedicated steward of Randall’s Island Park, the Alliance sustains, maintains, develops, and programs the Park to support the wellbeing of all New Yorkers. RIPA has an annual operating budget of $9.5 million, approximately half of which is raised through fundraising. Reporting to the President and working closely with RIPA’s Board of Trustees, the Director of Development will be a key member of the senior management team and will be a driving force in helping the organization meet its short-and long-term fundraising goals. The Alliance is entering an exciting phase of growth and visibility, and the right candidate will play a pivotal role in strategic planning to shape the future of the organization. S/he will be responsible for managing all development functions including: grant writing; an annual gala, Run the River 5K and other events; major gifts; corporate giving; and individual giving. His/her responsibilities will also include supervising a Development Assistant, as well as providing guidance and/or technical assistance to RIPA staff seeking grant funding (both public and private). 

                                                               

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that pairs key programs and assets with targeted strategies for raising revenue from corporations, foundations, special events, major donors and other individuals
  • Work closely with the Board Development Committee and other Board Task Forces to spearhead Board fundraising efforts
  • Increase opportunities for meaningful corporate engagement, building off a successful corporate volunteering program
  • Oversee RIPA’s annual Fielding Dreams Gala, attended by 600+ guests, which raised $1.2 million in 2018
  • Oversee and expand support of RIPA’s annual Run the River 5K, which raises approximately $100,000 per year and attracts over 500 runners
  • Research, write and track grant proposals for operations, programs and capital projects Research, cultivate and steward relationships with new and existing donors, with a focus on securing new 5- and 6-figure gifts
  • Support Board development by identifying, researching and guiding cultivation of potential board candidates, and staffing the Governance and Nominating Committee of the Board with the Vice President
  • Guide improvements to donor and prospect database functions and tracking mechanisms and ensure system integrity
  • Coordinate with staff in other departments, as well as outside partners, to maximize fundraising success
  • Prepare regular progress reports and forecasts on fundraising
  • Represent RIPA at internal/external meetings and presentations as necessary

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors of Arts or Science degree
  • Strong development background with at least five (5) years of progressive direct fundraising experience
  • Proven track record of cultivating and securing new revenue from a variety of funders, including corporations, foundations and individuals
  • Experience managing staff
  • Exceptional written and oral presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills
  • Proven ability to take initiative, while exercising diplomacy and sound judgment in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Inventive, driven and entrepreneurial with a good sense of humor
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to collaborate and effectively engage multiple stakeholders in support of a unified mission
  • Enthusiasm for Randall’s Island Park, its mission and its future


PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate degree
  • Raiser’s Edge Experience
  • Experience networking and fundraising in the New York City region
  • Flexibility to work some weekends
  • Valid NY State Driver’s License
