The Remote Communication Specialist (RCS) designs and implements low voltage power systems, hardware, networks, networking physical layers & protocols, and sensors, in remote environments on preserves. They provide IT operations functions for the organization’s standard hardware, software and voice/data network solutions, and for hardware and software tailored to site-specific applications. They are responsible for the purchase, installation, and life-cycle maintenance of PCs, sensors and network connectivity equipment. As appropriate, they provide escalated on-site support of hardware, software and network connectivity issues. Acts as the primary point of communication between IT, conservation staff and external vendors. Performs local administration and operations functions as appropriate in accordance with TNC and IT standards, policies and procedures. This position will primarily work on TNC’s Palmyra Atoll Preserve in the Northern Line Islands. The Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve, and on Santa Cruz Island off the coast of California
Desired Skills & Experience
· Associates degree along with 2 years’ experience in operations or equivalent combined.
· Experience with MS Office software, Windows and Macintosh environment.
· Experience manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data.
· Ability to travel to and between remote locations (Palmyra, Santa Cruz Island, and potentially other locations)
· Experience installing remote wireless networks, sensors and remote communication device
