The Grassroots Leadership and Engagement (GLE) Unit is part of Amnesty International USA (AIUSA), which works to promote human rights in the U.S. and worldwide.  AIUSA is dedicated to holding the U.S. government and governments around the world accountable to international human rights obligations and commitments.  The GLE Unit advances AIUSA’s policy advocacy by training, mobilizing, and supporting a network of grassroots advocates to urge state and federal policymakers to act on critical human rights issues.  

This internship can work remotely but the candidate must be located in any state where AIUSA offices are located; New York City, Chicago, Boston, ATL, California, Washington, D.C.

The Grassroots Legislative Advocacy Intern will work closely with GLE staff to mobilize, train, and recruit grassroots human rights advocates. Duties include:   

  • Assisting with virtual grassroots advocacy mobilizations. 
  • Creating digital materials and tools to better equip AIUSA grassroots advocates.  
  • Recruiting grassroots advocates via social media and other outlets in target states for AIUSA’s legislative priorities. 
  • Tracking AIUSA’s state-based advocacy work and drafting legislative actions via the Quorum advocacy platform.  
  • Updating and maintaining databases.
