CAREER ADVISOR, Antioch

Rubicon transforms communities by equipping low-income East Bay residents to break the cycle of poverty. We believe community transformation is best accomplished when led by residents themselves, and our program offers participants the opportunity to become change agents in their community. By strengthening their own financial, social and health situation, participants emerge ready to act as leaders in community and civic life. Their personal successes will have a ripple effect, benefiting their family and broader community.

The Career Advisor assists program participants with the process of making informed career decisions leading to full-time employment at the regional self-sufficiency standard. This includes helping them choose a career and identify a pathway to career-oriented employment. This can happen early in an individual’s program or after employment has stabilized. This involves working with a variety of career assessment tools and personality inventories and engaging in occupational exploration and planning exercises through group and individualized services. Based on the knowledge and information obtained in the Pathways planning process, and with 1:1 counseling from a Career Advisor, the participant selects one or more three possible pathways: Career/Vocational Training, Career/Education, and/or Career/Entrepreneurship. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Program/Site Manager. Pay rate is between $25-$27/hour, depending on experience and certification.

  • Career Planning and Guidance: Help participants identify pathways to career-oriented employment at or above the self-sufficiency wage standard and help them select, and apply for educational, vocational or entrepreneurial training opportunities
  • Coaching: Provide individual coaching and conduct group workshops in furtherance of individual participant career needs. (The ability and willingness to deliver honest, productive feedback and to motivate will be critical to effectiveness)
