Summary:

The Safe Horizon DV Shelter Program provides safe and confidential spaces for DV survivors and their children.  We are committed to providing these services with empathy, compassion, professionalism, non-judgement, and respect. Our spaces respect survivors’ rights to self-determination and focus on giving families and individuals the space, both emotional and physical, to heal from the victimization and trauma they have experienced. 

Responsibilities:

·      Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients.

  • Access  immediate safety needs and develop a risk management plan during intake of  shelter placement calls ;
  • Provide crisis intervention including mediation and de-escalation skills to diffuse situations between residents family members and/or roommates;
  • Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with residents
  • Using both bi-weekly individual supervision and monthly group supervision along with self-reflection, observations and trainings to improve client centered practice skills and knowledge about self-care and Vicarious Trauma and its impact;
  • Planning, implementing and/or researching self-care and other social activities for residents and their children;
  • Actively participating in donor tours and helping with special client events and holiday parties;
  • Conducting regular health and safety facility checks 
  • Understanding and following emergency procedures, including fire procedures;
  • Sorting and organizing donations of food, clothing, starter kits, etc;
  • Distributing supplies to residents in accordance with established guidelines and/or emergency requests from residents;
  • Enter activity log information, shift notes and CMS, in a timely fashion and accurate manner;
  • Assisting with bed utilization by helping with apartment preparation and cleaning; moving client belongings, etc.
  • Providing childcare as requested by residents or staff in accordance with written policies;
  • Providing client accompaniment to important appointments when requested;

Qualifications:

  • Must have or willing to obtain CPR certification, security guard license and F80
  • High School Diploma/GED plus a minimum of two years relevant experience in a related field.
  • Previous experience in the areas of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or social justice is preferred.    

·         Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents and staff

·         Must be flexible, patient and able to juggle multiple roles simultaneously


Requirements:

  • Ability to climb stairs to physically inspect sleeping quarters and to effectively activate and supervise the emergency site safety plan.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to use computer to retrieve emails, maintain activity logs and enter client notes

·         Utilization of Client Centered Practice (CCP) skills 

·         Ability to use neutral and non-judgmental language when responding to clients

·         Understanding and responding to vicarious trauma

·         Ability to engage with clients using a trauma informed perspective

·         Tasks may involve exposure to blood, bodily fluid, or tissues.


Additional Requirements:

·         Required to work overtime as needed , including holidays and during clement weather

·         Paid mandatory trainings that occur in off-site locations and outside of the regular work schedule. 

·         Must obtain Hepatitis B vaccine or formally decline vaccination. Vaccination record from previous employer is acceptable.

·         Attending Staff meetings and trainings as requested;

·         Attend mandatory trainings that may occur outside shift hours and shelter location;

·         Other related tasks as assigned.
