Description

Under the Direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Advancement is responsible for the fundraising, financial development, communications, public affairs, marketing, publicity and social media activities of the organization.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Fundraising and Financial Development Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute annual fundraising plan
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Oversee grants programs with contract grant writer
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors
  • Creating and executing a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors
  • Manage and oversee Museum’s membership program
  • Overseeing organization of annual Historymakers Gala and other special events; supervise contract Events Coordinator
  • Developing and tracking proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Create and monitor related budgets in support of the Executive Director


Communications and Public Affairs Duties:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and senior leadership to develop communications strategies that will broaden programmatic reach and deepen impact
  • Develop and refine Chinese American Museum’s “core” messages to ensure organizational consistency
  • Identify significant media and public policy issues that can be leveraged to support Chinese American Museum, and create and implement plans to exploit them
  • Serve as executive editor for the organization’s website and social media outlets
  • Oversee organizational response to inquiries
  • Oversee relationship with Contract Publicist


Other Duties:

  • Initiate and maintain sustainable partnerships with other arts, cultural, and history related organizations; including community-based and academic organizations
  • Strengthen relationships with patrons, donors, artists, collectors, dealers and other Chinese/Asian American specialists
  • Serve on juries and committees for other arts cultural organizations with the Executive Director’s approval
  • Develop and maintain departmental budgets and reporting
  • Other responsibilities assigned by the Executive Director
