Job Title:                        Immigrant and Refugee Social Services Coordinator

Status:                            Full Time, with occasional evening hours

Salary:                            $44,000

Supervisor:                    Director of Refugee Programming and Planning


General Description: HIAS Pennsylvania seeks a dynamic, experienced and flexible social worker to support compassionate and efficient social services for a variety of vulnerable immigrants, through a combination of direct case management and supervision of staff and social work interns.



Summary of Responsibilities.

Refugee Case Manager (40%)

The overall goal of the Refugee Resettlement and Placement (R&P) program is to help refugee families become self-sufficient in their new communities by providing basic needs and a core group of services for their first 3 months in the US.  The Refugee Case Manager provides direct case management for newly arrived refugees, assisting with their needs for housing, medical care, education, financial literacy, and cultural orientation in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner. Refugee resettlement is conducted in compliance with a contract with the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, so timeliness, attention to detail and diligence in service delivery and case-noting are critical. 

Supervision and Service Coordination (40%)

  • Oversee and align quality of services across the R&P program.  Assure that the program is in compliance with the federal guidelines at all times.

·        Provide professional support for case managers and other agency staff who work with intense client situations.

·        Provide training for new staff and interns.

·        Create systems as needed to ensure that staff, intern, and volunteer efforts to support clients are coordinated and aligned. 

·        Provide regular supervision for Housing and Medical Coordinators.

·        Provide task supervision and oversight of regular team of interns;

·        Provide Social Work supervision for all agency MSW interns.

Organizational Requirements (20%):

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports as needed, in consultation with the Director of the Refugee Program.
  • Represent the agency to stakeholders, service providers, and the general public on the national, state, and local levels.
  • Actively participate in supervision, weekly case meetings and other department, agency, community and provider meetings, as needed.
  • Keep informed about refugee and immigrant issues and available services to refugees and asylees.
  • Conduct all services in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner, according to agency and grantor policies and procedures. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Refugee Programming and Planning.



·  MSW with at least two years professional experience required.

  • Case management experience and/or experience working with vulnerable populations required. Preference given to candidates who have experience working with refugee or immigrant communities.
  • Ability to work effectively with a multicultural caseload and ethnically diverse staff is required.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making practices required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • High degree of skill in doing detailed reporting and maintaining accurate case files.
  • Ability to identify challenges and provide recommendations for solutions.
  • Preference given to candidates who are fluent in one or more of our most relevant languages: Swahili, Arabic, Nepali, French, Russian, Burmese, Pashto/Dari/Farsi.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through a 3rd party interpreter.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, with accuracy in data entry.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
