The Child Mind Institute has an opportunity for a seasoned Chief Financial Officer and Head of Business Development to oversee the finance, administrative and operations functions of a dynamic, innovative, growing $40MM non-profit organization and medical practice. This newly created position is ideal for a strategic thinking, and results driven leader in the field who understands the clinical, research and education missions of the organization and continuously works to promote the organization and achieve its goals. 

Reporting into the Executive Director, this is an exempt, full-time position located in our NYC headquarters. 


  • Oversee administrative functions and implement as appropriate, system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures ensuring the security and smooth daily operations of the Finance, Human Resources, Facilities, IT, and compliance functions 
  • Foster an integrated practice model across the mission areas and core services through the development of Child Mind Institute’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization 
  • Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity–based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans
  • Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work 
  • Provide strategic guidance on how to significantly grow Child Mind Institute revenue streams over the next five years 
  • Participate in corporate policy development and implementation as a member of the senior management team 
  • Work with the Board of Directors and ensure that the Child Mind Institute is adhering to the strategic plan 
  • Together with the Executive Director and President, provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff 
  • Responsible for overseeing organizational dashboards, communicating results, and developing strategies 
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field
  • Remain up to date on nonprofit best practices and state and federal laws regarding nonprofit administration 
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities 


  • A minimum of a BS; a CPA and/or advanced degree - MBA, MPA preferred
  • At least 12-15 years of non-profit senior management experience managing day-to-day financial and administrative operations of a health care organization with a budget of at least $50MM 
  • Excellent analytic and decisive decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills 
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Ability to engage the Audit and Finance committees of the Board of Directors to develop short, medium, and long-term financial plans and projections 
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget 
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning 
  • Understanding and practical use of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and HIPAA privacy and security regulations 
  • Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting  
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
