About the Position

 

The Director of Human Resources will set the vision for and manage implementation of all HR-focused policies and practices for a staff of 350-400 across Explore Schools. They will partner closely with the Managing Director of Talent and Chief of Staff to ensure Explore Schools continues to provide competitive benefits and policies that put our people first. In year one of the role, the Director of HR will have the opportunity to complete a full audit of current systems to manage and track employee-based data, and partner cross-functionally with teammates to propose innovative solutions for processes and services provided to schools as the organization moves toward centralization of the HR function. We are looking for a collaborative problem-solver with experience managing a team through change and building systems and morale from the ground up.


Key Responsibilities:


• Managing a team of 1-3 employees (Talent Managers)

• Clarifying roles and responsibilities for a team as they balance employee focused services such as benefits administration, enrollment periods, onboarding, leaves, etc.

• Conducting an audit on inventory on all current HR data systems employed by Explore Schools and leading the team on innovating and refining processes

• Partnering closely with the Managing Directors of Talent, Operations, Finance, and the Chief of Staff to ensure strong cross-functional collaboration and sound division of labor across Central Office teams at Explore Schools

• Collaborates on a consistent basis with school-based leaders (Ps, DOOs) to train, develop and ensure that any school-based HR expectations and deliverables are met

• Providing counsel and advising school and network-based leaders on employee relations issues

• Liaise with external constituents and third-party service providers for benefits administration, health coverage, leaves, 403(b), etc.

• Leading team through various annual reporting needs that require the collection, analysis, and sharing of talent and HR data, such as, but not limited to: BEDS, ACA, charter renewal preparation, and other compliance requirements 

• Building and managing systems for tracking employee leaves for school and network office employees

• Disseminating communication, align policies, and provide guidance to school staff and other employees to ensure they are in compliance with laws related to the work place

• Staying current on all legal requirements set by government regulatory agencies (ex. State Department of Education, Department of Labor, etc.) 

• Managing onboarding and off-boarding for all staff at the organization 

• Overseeing all benefits administration across the organization


Qualifications

• Experience with conflict mediation and difficult conversations

• Effective at building relationships and buy-in of a diverse range of stakeholders

• Proven results of effectively leading a team through change management 

• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree 

• Meticulous attention to detail

• Nimble team player and thought partner – able to take the lead and play a supporting role across various projects

• Eager to solve problems with an eye toward systematization and scalable processes

• 3-5 years of HR-related experience 

• 1-3 years of experience leading HR work in a mid-sized school system or non-profit organization

• Familiarity with benefits administration and HRIS systems such as ADP

• A successful track record of setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making

• Professional integrity, flexibility, and a reflective attitude with a passion for education
