New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning health care and social service agency in Midtown Manhattan, with a satellite Bronx office, which services children living with medical complexity, disabilities or serious emotional or psychiatric disturbance of their families. To assist us in achieving this mission, NAC is seeking a talented and qualified Director of Nursing to join the Nursing/Medical Department
The Director of Nursing is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse with experience in management as a pediatric nurse who will work in the communities of families enrolled in NAC’s Prevention and Foster Care programs; recruit, train and supervise nurses on staff; assure optimal functioning of NAC’s Article 28 (and upcoming Article 29i) Pediatrics Clinic; and work collaboratively in all interdisciplinary endeavors at NAC in which participation in work related to case planning, administrative oversight and quality improvement is required.

Competencies:
The Director of Nursing is expected to work with the Assistant Director of Nursing, Medical Director and Assistant Medical Director to:
· Oversee the overall provision of nursing care to children and families enrolled in NAC’s Prevention and Foster Care Programs;
· Oversee the recruitment, training, performance and evaluation of nurses, health service staff and support staff in order to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness and adherence to requirements for record-keeping and documentation;
· Ensure that clinic protocols, policies, procedures, systems and functions required for the operation of the Article 28 (and upcoming Article 29i) clinic remain in compliance with all regulations issued by the Administration of Children’s Services (ACS), New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), New York City Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program, Occupational Safety and Health Administrations (OSHA) and other regulatory organizations;
· Participate as member of inter-disciplinary teams of social workers, mental health counselors, behavior specialists, nurses, educators, mental health professionals and other staff to ensure that services meet the needs of each child and family and are of the highest quality;
· Serve as a member of NAC’s Senior Leadership Team;
· Collaborate with staff at hospitals, outpatient practices and other child welfare agencies in the care of children and families enrolled in NAC’s Prevention and Foster Care Programs;
· Prepare for audits by ACS, NYSDOH and other funding sources and regulatory agencies;
Perform any other duties as may reasonably be required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, meet the needs of the agency and ensure compliance with regulations.
Required Education and Experience:
A qualified candidate for the position will:
· Be a New York State licensed Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or have 5 years of experience in management as a pediatric RN;
· Have experience with oversight and administration of Medicaid and Article 28 regulations and systems;
· Have experience in the provision of services within the child welfare system;
· Have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a nurse in pediatrics, including preparing children/youth for visits, performing phlebotomy and providing immunizations;
· Have significant prior supervisory and administrative experience in health care settings;
· Be able to multi-task and have excellent organizational skills;
· Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
· Have excellent writing skills and competency managing databases;
· Demonstrate competency in culturally effective health care for children and families served in NAC’s programs
Preferred Education and Experience:
It is preferred that the candidate:
· Have familiarity with health care funding mechanisms;
· Have competency and interest in the delivery of the range of pediatric outpatient care, including:
· Have prior supervisory experience of nursing and other health care staff working within the child welfare system.
