Description

Womankind works with survivors of gender-based violence to rise above trauma and build a path to healing. We bring critical resources and deep cultural competency to help Asian communities find refuge, recovery, and renewal. We work with survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual violence across the lifespan. Womankind offers a 24/7 helpline, counseling and case management services for survivors and their children, emergency residential and transitional housing, immigration legal services, and other support services.


The STAR Children and Youth Program at Womankind provides client-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive services to children and teens that have experienced trauma through witnessing and/or experiencing abuse and/or violence. We provide individual and group counseling to our clients and parenting support to their caregivers. Our mentoring programs provide an additional channel for social, emotional, academic and recreational support.


The STAR Advocate will be responsible for providing counseling to children and youth between the ages of 2 and 18 years, as well as coordinating, recruiting for, and facilitating the Drawing And Truth Program. This position is based at our Manhattan Community Site Office but staff is expected to travel to meet clients at other sites as well based on need. 



RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Individual case load of 10-12 cases
  • Facilitate the Drawing And Truth (DAT) program that runs through September and June in accordance with the academic calendar
  • Case management support with regards to school safety transfers, and college prep and application support for the older clients
  • Track and report data pertinent to the role
  • Outreach to community partners including other community based organizations and schools
  • Recruitment for groups
  • Weekly meetings with supervisor
  • Monthly meetings with Children & Youth team and Site team
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned



QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Art Therapy, Drama Therapy, or Music/Movement Therapy
  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing to a wide range of people
  • Effective planning and organization skills
  • Proven ability to maintain good working relationships with a variety of people and groups, including funders, community partners, volunteers, and staff
  • Must be able to meet strict deadlines and adapt to changing deadlines
  • Tuesday to Saturday schedule
  • Flexible hours required including some weekday nights
  • Knowledge about dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in immigrant communities preferred
  • Mandarin is strongly preferred
