POSITION TITLE: Paralegal/DOJ Accredited Representative

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP: Legal Services Manager

WAGE & BENEFITS: This is a part-time position averaging 20 hours per week. The hourly wage range is $17.00 - $20.00, negotiable and commensurate with experience. This is a grant-funded position through June 30, 2023. Continued, at-will employment based on funding availability and performance.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The University YMCA seeks a mission-driven professional to provide direct immigration legal services and assistance for NAWC clients. The paralegal will be responsible for completing client intake, providing immigration legal consultations, and preparing cases for submission to USCIS. They will work closely with the Legal Services Manager and the NAWC team to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality immigration legal services to local immigrant communities. The paralegal will also receive training for DOJ partial accreditation through the University YMCA.

REQUIREMENTS

• Fluency, written and oral, in English and Spanish and/or English and French is highly desired
• Ability to work a flexible schedule at times, including some evenings and weekends
• Valid driver’s license, good driving record and access to a reliable vehicle

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attend training and perform tasks within ILC’s DOJ Guidelines to prepare to for DOJ partial accreditation
• Assist DOJ representatives with ongoing casework, forms, statements, cover letters, and client follow-up to ensure immigration cases are prepared and filed in a timely manner and client receives high-quality services
• Maintain complete and accurate client records
• Once accredited, represent clients before USCIS
• Contribute to outreach and education programs related to immigration law and advocate for the rights of immigrants
• Work with NAWC staff and volunteers to provide seamless and effective continuity of service for all clients
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Strong commitment to the enfranchisement and empowerment of immigrant communities
• Ability to work with people across diverse personalities, lifestyles, cultures, political orientations, and faiths
• Impeccable integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
• Excellent computer skills in all Microsoft Word applications and Google Suite
• Experience with case management systems and/or grant reporting is strongly preferred
