In the heart of downtown Richmond is St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Located just across the street from the Capitol Building, St. Paul’s has been called the epicenter of downtown, Richmond. St. Paul’s is dedicated to being a living example of Christ’s call to prayer, justice, compassion, and reconciliation. We are currently seeking a Part-Time Audio Visual Technician who will join this community and team in their mission to broadcast and “proclaim Christ in the heart of the city.”

The primary responsibility of the Part-Time Audio-Visual Technician (A/V Technician) is to execute, produce, and provide technical oversight of the weekly Sunday live-streamed services, and other live-streamed offerings as they are developed. In addition to the execution of the live stream, the A/V Technician will lead a committee of volunteers to assist with this streaming, and also provide technical expertise and team leadership for the church’s sound, media, and video execution and production. The A/V Technician is also responsible for audio/video technical and creative development, production, and training related to the live/post-production audio/visual needs of St. Paul’s. The A/V Technician ensures that the A/V portion of the church’s ministries continues to grow in effectiveness and quality of excellence, in alignment with the church’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives.

The expectation is that the A/V Technician will be on-site at least two times each week, Sunday (worship services) and Tuesday (staff meeting), along with additional production work to bring the approximate total hours per week to ten.  

Specific Areas of Oversight:

·       Sunday live-stream of services.

·       Other live-streamed services and offerings.

·       The technical leader and overseer of all the A/V systems at St. Paul’s including:

o  In the Church.

o  In the Parish Hall.

o  The portable systems.

·       Post live-stream video and audio editing and delivery for sharing via our communications ministry and its delivery tools (social media, newsletter, website links, etc.).

·       Communication and coordination with clergy, staff, and church leaders of A/V offerings. 

·       A/V Ministry Committee leader and staff liaison.




Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

·       Appreciation for the Episcopal Church and the vision and mission of St. Paul’s

·       Possesses a servant’s heart and a strong passion to support the ministry of St. Paul’s.  

·       Weekly attendance at the St. Paul’s staff meeting, currently held on Tuesday mornings. 

·       On-Site at least every Sunday for the primary weekly worship services.

·       Skilled in creating and mixing quality video and sound in a variety of settings. 

·       Comfortable and proficient in working with a variety of audio, video and media.

·       A general understanding of Frequency coordination for Wireless microphones, in-ear systems and wireless instrument feeds.

·       The A/V Technician should also be proficient with our software and hardware, Windows OS, PowerPoint, computer networks and a working knowledge of various software platforms for video production/editing and audio production/editing.

·       Strong communication and leadership skills. Holds a ‘problem solver’ attitude.

·       Skilled in all levels of video production (pre-production, live production, postproduction, camera operation, editing, sound, etc.).

·       Oversee the maintenance, set up, and operation of portable A/V systems for special events located outside of the church building.

·       Assist church employees with solutions for general audio/sound issues on their computers.

·       Knowledgeable and skilled in live switching of multi-camera sources.

·       Because of the live events, the applicant must be able to work in a rapidly changing environment with multiple priorities and inputs.

·       Lead a group of streaming ministry volunteers to participate, assist, and when necessary to execute the stream in the absence of the A/V Technician.

·       Ability to participate in the maintenance and update of the Church Website

·       A high-capacity individual who is consistently striving to learn and grow. 


Education in audio-visual or related field; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·       Working knowledge and hands-on experience for proper operation of various systems to include but not limited to:

o  The operation for all church facility A/V systems.

o  The operation of video recording and post-production, live broadcast of audio and video, and other presentation related systems (i.e. PowerPoint, pro-presenter, etc.).

o  In-house information system operation and software (Windows OS and our streaming software).

Other Information

This is a part-time, salaried position with flexible hours, up to 20 per week, with at least two days spent on-site at St. Paul’s to interact with the staff and ensure the integrity of the equipment for the next Sunday, as well as preparation to prepare the equipment for next week’s Services.

Salary is established between $15,000 – $18,000 per year. Based on experience and expertise.
