Can you envision yourself as the next “Chief Destination Marketing Officer” of Lehigh Valley? This is a passion-driven role that will require the right blend of vision, experience, and charisma to continue to lead the mission of promoting Lehigh Valley to the world.
This job will not be the typical 9 – 5. The day can start in the office handling the day-to-day administration
of the organization and end at an evening community event or board meeting to bolster partnership development and network. We are looking for someone with proven success in leveraging a lead-by-example approach to guiding the staff toward accomplishing the strategic plan of Discover Lehigh Valley. This position reports to a board of directors.
o Articulate the vision and mission of the organization, establish its priorities and provide general direction to the staff.
o Lead the development and execution of the strategic planning efforts utilizing a process that involves the board, staff, and key community leaders.
o Maintain high levels of communication among all staff and with the board of directors, its committees, and other stakeholders.
o Aggressively communicate the Discover Lehigh Valley story loudly and clearly across Lehigh Valley and beyond.
o Proactively represent Discover Lehigh Valley and the tourism industry at community events, on nonprofit boards, and on committees and task forces.
o Get out! Make appearances at events, local eating spots,entertainment venues and fundraisers constantly.
o Proactively represent the industry’s interests at the federal, state, and local level while maintaining positive relationships with elected officials.
o Be a “go to” resource for all tourism related media questions. Develop and maintain helpful relationships with local, regional, and industry media.
o Recruit, manage, and retain appropriate staff to carry out the goals and objectives of the organization.
o Develop and implement strategies and structures necessary to generate revenue according to the annual budget plan.
o Work with the Governance Committee to recruit top-notch board members capable of leading the organization.
o Demonstrated ability to lead and manage an organization, including 5+ years’ experience managing a staff and working with a board of directors.
o Strong ability to think strategically and lead an organization through executing on that plan.
o History of sales and marketing success along with successful brand development and promotion is helpful.
o Excellent networking capabilities.
o Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with elected and other public officials at all levels of government.
o Ability to advocate effectively for the hospitality industry and serve as a local expert on travel and tourism.
o Willingness to attend events, fundraisers, and regularly visit local eating spots, festivals and entertainment venues including on evenings and weekends.
o Destination Marketing or Hospitality industry experience preferred.
