Position Description

 


POSITION: The Literacy Lab is seeking a hard-working, organized, resourceful, full-time Program Associate to support its programs and operations. The Program Associate ensures successful implementation of The Literacy Lab’s programs by supporting staff, full-time tutors, and partner school sites. The Program Associate also supports recruitment and other organizational operations. This position is an excellent opportunity to join an entrepreneurial, fast-moving team and a high-performing nonprofit dedicated to closing the literacy achievement gap.



ABOUT THE LITERACY LAB: The Literacy Lab is a fast-paced, Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide low-income children with individualized reading instruction to improve their literacy skills, leading to greater success in school and increased opportunities in life. We partner with school districts to add capacity in high-need schools to close the literacy achievement gap for children before third grade.



RESPONSIBILITIES: The Program Associate, who is based in DC, is responsible for the following:


·     Supporting the implementation of The Literacy Lab’s programs and ensuring that tutors are successful and have a positive experience in the program

·     Working with Literacy Lab staff to plan and organize training institutes and ongoing training for tutors and coaches

·     Helping to ensure that tutors have ample opportunities for additional service, meaningful professional development, and leadership

·     Managing components of the recruitment of a diverse team of high-performing, full-time tutors

·     Monitoring and managing student and tutor data for timeliness and accuracy

·     Managing tutor files, timesheets, and other program elements in accordance with AmeriCorps requirements

·     Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking candidates with:


·     Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail and deadlines

·     The ability to work flexibly and independently in a fast-paced environment

·     Strong problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude

·     Strong professional communication skills

·     A deep commitment to closing the achievement gap

·     Experience in education and/or with high-need communities is preferred

·     Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010 (or later) software, especially Word and Excel

·     Bachelor’s Degree, preferred


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

TRAVEL:


This position may require out-of-town travel of approximately 5-10 nights per year for trainings, staff events, and conferences.
