As part of its ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive information to the scientific community, AACR publishes an important journal, Cancer Discovery, which received an Impact Factor of 20.011. Cancer Discovery ranks 7th of 217 journals in the Oncology category (2016 Journal Citation Reports). This high-impact publication presents peer-reviewed, original articles describing major advances in basic, translational, and clinic research, including clinical trials. Cancer Discovery is an essential information resource that also publishes news, review articles, perspecitves and commentaries, and Research Watch summaries of important journal articles.


Position Summary:


The Editorial Associate, Cancer Discovery, will assist in the overall product development of Cancer Discovery by providing administrative support to an established in-house editorial team for all aspects of the manuscript review process and journal production.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:


•Handles the manuscript submission process by quality checking manuscripts at all stages (i.e., original submissions, revised submissions, and final submissions). Works with a robust in-house editorial team to ensure rapid turnaround times for all manuscripts.

•Handles Journal correspondence and telephone contact with authoris, reviewers, Scientific Editors, and Editors-in-Chief.

•Coordinates with Production Unit for OnlineFirst publication of selected articles.

•Coordinates with Communications Department for press releases.

•Attends Journal Manager meetings and communications Division-wide policies reltated to AACR journals to Cancer Discovery in-house editoral team.

•Assists Executive Editor with preparation of Journal statistics and other support documentation for editorial meetings.

•Coordinates Executive Editor/Editors-in-Chief meetings and teleconferences.

•Maintains Journal’s Editorial Board roset (online, in print, in peer-review submission system, and coordinating with Staff Assistant to ensure that Editors are properly deonoted in Imis system).

•Responsible for annual Acknowledgement to Reviewers.


Education and Training:


•Bachelor’s Degree.


Preferred Qualifications and Experience:


•Minimum of two years’ experience in an administrative or supervisory position. Previous editorial or publishing experience preferred.

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•Independent, self-motivated, consistently demonstrating initiative and commitment.
