5 Month, Full Time Position at a Sanctuary and Shelter for Women
Rosie’s Place, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women in Boston, offers emergency and long term assistance to women who have nowhere else to turn. Founded in 1974, Rosie’s Place welcomes each guest with respect and unconditional acceptance. Rosie’s Place does not accept government funds and relies instead on committed volunteers and private supporters to accomplish its effective and innovative work.
Rosie’s Place is currently accepting applications for a 5 month position at our busy front desk. This position will start on February 4, 2019 and end on June 28th, 2019 while a staff member is on maternity leave.
Monday through Friday- 8am to 4pm
To provide a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for guests and visitors entering Rosie’s Place and to act as an effective, respectful and pro-active liaison between guests, visitors and Rosie’s Place programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
Provide reliable, dependable, punctual coverage of the Rosie’s Place front office via the Front Desk.
Answer doors and greet guests and visitors. Create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for all guests in reception area.
Handle incoming telephone calls, transfer calls and take messages. Handle incoming mail and packages and sort mail on a daily basis. Assist with incoming donations. Copy, fax and maintain all printed material. Help guests sign-up for services, arts programs, ESL classes, emergency shelter, and other programs as needed.
Oversee the sign up and use of the telephone, computer, laundry and showers.
Maintain bar sheet, staff lists and staff mailboxes.
Consistently monitor guest areas for safety issues and following of the rules.
Handle all emergencies along with other staff members in a calm and effective way.
Additional duties as assigned by the Front Office Manager.
Report directly to Front Office Manager.
Reliable, dependable, punctual. Good written, verbal and computer skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks at once. Comfortable dealing with diverse groups of people, including people struggling with mental health and drug and alcohol issues. Confident, level-headed, adaptable, able to cope with stress, quick-thinking, energetic and outgoing. Able to speak Spanish preferred. Experience working with poor and homeless persons preferred.
