Description

Reading Holiday Project is an award-winning literacy nonprofit. It's premiere program, Barbershop Books creates child-friendly reading spaces in barbershops across America and is the winner of the National Book Foundation's 2017 Innovations in Reading Prize.


We are seeking a part time (approximately 5-7 hours/week) nonprofit bookkeeper to own the responsibilities of the general ledger and support senior management:

  • Performing Accounts Receivable
  • Performing Accounts Payable
  • Payroll support
  • Complete Monthly Closing: Reconciliations of accounts and balance sheet.
  • Prepare necessary accounting schedules for fiscal audits
  •  Provide monthly financial statements to Executive
  • Assist in Budget Preparation
  • Provide Monthly Budget Variance Reports and Analysis
  • Contract variance reports
  • Liaison with Outside Accountant
  • Provide ad hoc reports


The ideal candidate will poeses the skills, qualifications and education below:

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting or Business Administration
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in Bookkeeping/Accounting
  • Minimum of 2 years with Non-Profit Government and Donor Contracts
  • Intermediate level of MS Office especially Excel
  • Mastery of Accounting Software (Quickbooks Online)
  • Understand GAAP, and Accountancy
  • Be pro-active, highly organized and an effective communicator
