Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is a not-for-profit community development organization serving 8,000 residents a year through a comprehensive array of housing preservation, economic development, community organizing and youth and family support services programs and projects. With community residents leading the way, the mission of CHLDC is to build a strong, equitable East New York, where youth and adults achieve educational and economic success, secure and preserve affordable housing, and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and community.  We actively promote policies that advance racial equity.


Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) full-time CLC Director in the Youth and Family Services division. 


Principal Core Competencies

• AGENCY MISSION/STRATEGIC PLAN: Shows understanding and commitment to CHLDC mission and values, adherence to strategic plan, agency’s policies and procedures, participates in agency’s committees/events. Supports leadership development & community building, represents CHLDC and residents’ concerns in coalitions and advocacy campaigns and organizations. 


• SUPERVISORY SKILLS: Is effective in developing others, provides consistent supervision opportunities, and provides regular performance feedback. Must develop and obtain respect and trust by being forthright with their team and the greater community of which they are a part.


• PLANNING, ORGANIZING, EXECUTION/IMPLEMENTATION OF PLANS:  Well organized; identifies priorities, completes them in a timely way. Demonstrates initiative and flexibility.  Approaches work assignments in systematic way; meets deadlines; organizes work space to facilitate productivity.


• PROBLEM SOLVING, DECISION MAKING AND JUDGEMENT: Can find appropriate solutions to problems; works efficiently and effectively, confident and effective decision maker, gathers information to solve problems, anticipates problems and demonstrates accountability.


• COMMUNICATION: (Both written and verbal) Demonstrates the ability to express ideas and feelings clearly, consistently and effectively. Keeps supervisor properly informed of activities and/or concerns.  Observes agency’s policies and procedures.


• COLLABORATION: Maintains and models strong working relationships with staff, colleagues, funders and others in the field. Shows ability to work well with others as well as the ability to oversee and cultivate healthy teams. 


• LEADERSHIP: Demonstrates the ability to establish authority through positive leadership and development practices, communication, and most importantly patience, giving our staff and students the confidence, stability and nurturing atmosphere they need to succeed.


Principal Duties:  

• In consultation with the supervisor; plan, develop and lead a community learning center that integrates an after school program, MSSSC, specialized programming, and family events. 

• Hire, supervise, train and evaluate the performance of CLC staff.

• Establish a productive collaborative relationship with school leadership that links the CLC with the school day programmatically and structurally. Meeting regularly with all relevant school staff, and attend relevant school committee meetings. 

• With the CLC leadership team, create a vision and craft a program plan that promote holistic and positive development of middle school youth and their families and community. 

• Manage all contracts. Meet, track and report on all contractual obligations, and build close relationships with representatives of all funding sources. 

• Manage all budgets, including monitoring spending, modifying spending, modifying budgets, and following fiscal procedures. 

• Plan and carry out monthly family events and three yearly family cultural outings. 

• Establish and staff a CLC advisory council consisting of school, parent, student, agency, and community representatives meeting bimonthly. 

• Seek and secure partnerships with agency and community institutions and resources to build out additional programs for the campus community.

• Manage permitting and regulatory compliance. Secure and safeguard program and storage space. 

• Arrange and provide space coordination among all Cypress Hills programs in collaboration with campus leaders. 

• Participate in division-wide, agency-wide, and project team meetings.

• Conduct yourself as a representative of the Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation.

• Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.

• Perform other duties as assigned as necessary for the success of the program.

Position Requirements:  

• Extensive experience with after school/extracurricular settings with middle school aged young people.  

• Demonstrated ability with administrative tasks.  

• Should be enthusiastic and dedicated to program’s educational and youth development goals.  

• Bachelors in Education, Social Work or related field required.  

• Five years in youth services. 

• Two years in management role in a youth-serving program. 

• Must clear DOE fingerprinting and background authorizations.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.


Supervision: 

Reports directly to the Assistant Division Director of Middle School programs


Compensation:  

Salary Range is $57,000 – $62,000.  Generous benefits package includes paid time off for service (in addition to vacation and holidays), medical/dental/vision coverage, retirement matching, paid parental leave, and support for childcare during extended travel, resources for professional development, and more.

Work Environment: 

This position works in a school setting during the workday. This role routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, walkie-talkies, cellphones, photocopiers, etc…. 


Physical Demands: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stand; walk is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds. 


Travel: 

Limited travel with the position for professional development, advocacy, etc…
