Position Summary: The Community School at Curtis High School creates a welcoming atmosphere for students to access a network of support and resources for their college exploration process. Using a comprehensive approach, students receive consistent exposure to higher educational institutions and hands-on coaching support to help them prepare for the college admissions process, and the realities of college life. Reporting to Community School Director, the College Coach is a fulltime salaried position and will be responsible for providing case management to all high school students to identify and apply to good-fit post-secondary educational options.


  • Provide intensive one-on-one college counseling to a caseload of students, ensuring that each young person completes CUNY, SUNY and private school applications, Financial Aid applications, participates in out-of-school; enrichment/college prep/career opportunities and enrolls in college
  • Facilitate youth part-time and summer job application process
  • Develop and implement interventions for 9th grade students in need of extra support
  • Create college exploration experiences for lower grade levels (9th and 10th) and provide college coaching for upper grade levels (11th and 12th)
  • Provide summer advisement for students transitioning to first year of college
  • Serve as an advisor to student clubs
  • Attend Grade Team Meetings
  • Collect and organize student documents and maintain student files
  • Track academic progress, credit completion and connect students to tutoring as needed                               
  • Meet with parents and facilitate parent workshops
  • Conduct grade advisory workshops on topics related to college preparation and career readiness
  • Assist, support, and participate in student led groups and school-wide events
  • Conduct trainings for CBO and school staff
  • Chaperone field trips and group retreats
  • Fulfill other duties as required by SSC Manager, Community School Director and / or School Principal


  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2-3 years working with young people in youth development or educational setting preferred
  • Experience counseling students on college access and success or on college admissions a plus
  • Counseling experience in urban, multicultural setting
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Writing, research and computer skills
  • Knowledge of US higher educational system, especially New York City and State
  • Quick learner, self-motivated
  • Capacity to work with a team, as well as independently
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable
  • Occasional Evening and Weekend hours
