Description

Primary Responsibilities: To direct MOFGA’s financial activities to ensure operational funding, maintenance and expansion of assets, growth of investments, and administrative efficiency. To provide oversight and supervision of department of finance and administration. To provide strategic financial advice to senior staff, program directors, MOFGA’s Board of Directors and its Finance Committee. To oversee insurance operations.


Supervisor: Executive Director


Work Week: 40 hours – Monday through Friday.


Additional Work Hours: Evening and weekend meetings and work as needed. Extended hours of operation during the Common Ground Country Fair weekend.


Position: Salaried. This position is based in Unity, Maine.


Required Abilities and Knowledge:


●     10+ years proven experience in managing day to day operations, preferably in a non-profit environment

●     Degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field preferred

●     Professional accounting designation desirable (CMA or CPA)

●     Demonstrated understanding of business principles and practices, GAAP and accrual accounting

●     Demonstrated experience in finance management including development and management of complex budget (non-profit preferred)

●     Proven experience in cash management

●     Proven experience in payroll and HR laws and best practices

●     Documented experience in strategic planning, problem-solving, research, analytics, and critical thinking

●     Demonstrated understanding of data privacy standards

●     Demonstrated leadership skills

●     Demonstrated success as a staff supervisor

●     Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

●     Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

●     Proficiency with financial software tools – Excel and Blackbaud Financial Edge essential as well as web based retail and POS systems

●     Working resourcefully, independently, and as a team member

●     Appreciation of socially responsible and innovative investment strategies

●     Managing many concurrent projects

●     Experience working enthusiastically with volunteers


Responsibilities:


●     Monitoring and regularly reporting on all financial aspects of administrative and programmatic activity

●     Providing direct supervision of finance administrator, administrative assistant (including oversight of Country Store), database manager, and other necessary administrative support personnel as well as oversee payroll, HR, and it’s functions

●     Monitoring and advising on investments and health of endowment

●     Developing, overseeing, reviewing, and ensuring adherence to organizational budget

●     Ensuring that financial practices are compliant with statutory law and regulation

●     Ensuring tracking and timely reporting of grant income and expenditures

●     Interpreting complex financial information and providing updates and information as needed by the board and staff

●     Providing MOFGA staff with guidance on earned income potential through business planning

●     Preparing monthly finance reports for program directors and periodic reports and trainings for finance committee and board

●     Coordinating annual financial audits and ensuring implementation of recommended management practices

●     Creating and maintaining relationships with service providers including banking institutions, accountants, auditors, insurance agencies, and suppliers

●     Conducting and evaluating periodic requests for proposals for banking, insurance, human resource and other financial services

●     Developing and maintaining an organizational finance policy manual including board directed investment policy

●     Monitoring and advising on organizational risk management including insurance, investment policy, and other potential vulnerabilities

●     Coordinating fiscal agent relationships with various organizations

●     Overseeing Common Ground Country Fair treasury

●     Handling other duties as needed

●     Carrying out all of the responsibilities listed above in accordance with the mission statement, philosophy and current Strategic Plan of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association
