Manager, Communications & Media Relations

 

The Manager, Communications & Media Relations promotes and elevates the visibility of Episcopal Relief & Development’s brand and programs by developing and executing an integrated communications strategy. Reporting to the Senior Director, Marketing & Communications and working in partnership with staff and consultants, you will be responsible for managing comprehensive communication strategies including overseeing media relations, raising the organizational profile, maintaining brand identity standards and supporting various marketing and advertising campaigns.

 

As Manager, Communications & Media Relations you will:


1.   Increase Brand Awareness and Monitoring the Brand Identity

  • Oversee a process to increase brand awareness with key religious and secular audiences
  • Create resources and tools to help maintain brand identity including branding guidelines
  • Train staff and volunteers to serve as brand ambassadors and representatives for the organization
  • Work closely with the Sr. Director, Marketing & Communications to manage and evaluate branding activities

2.   Implement a Media Strategy for Secular and Religious Press

  • Implement a media strategy for key religious and secular publications
  • Identify and pitch stories to religious and secular press and serve as a primary media contact
  • Produce and/or coordinate the creation of content for internal and external media contacts, including press releases, briefs, statements, talking points/key messages, Op-Eds, etc.
  • Provide counsel and media training for staff serving as spokespeople
  • Evaluates media metrics and outcomes for various projects and campaigns

3.   Lead the Development of General Promotional Resources

  • Oversee the creation of print, digital and multimedia promotional collateral (including brochures, presentations/speeches, annual reports, stories, video content, web/digital copy and other promotional materials) 
  • Interface with staff and vendors through all stages of resource production
  • Collaborate with other Marketing & Communications staff on editing stories for the organizational blog and on the creation of video and multimedia collateral
  • Work with other colleagues to develop and maintain systems for sourcing and cataloguing marketing and communications collateral, including stories, photos and video content
  • Serve as a backup for digital platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and the Episcopal Relief & Development blog

4.   Manage an Organizational Advertising Strategy for Digital and Print

  • Create and manage an advertising strategy and schedule for secular and religious publications
  • Coordinate the production of digital and print ads and related materials with consultants

A confident communicator with excellent verbal and written skills who has strong editing, proofreading, presentation and design abilities


A multi-tasker who is adept at managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines


A self-starter who takes initiative on projects; you know how to bring people together and get things done


An enthusiastic team member who is excited to work cross-functionally with other departments, consultants and contractors with tact, sound judgment and diplomacy

 

You Have:

 

A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing or related field. An advanced degree in communications or a related field is preferred


Previous work with a faith-based agency or non-profit organization (a plus) 


Familiarity with design software including InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe and Photoshop


Working knowledge of HTML and digital platforms (highly recommended)


Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
