New Destiny Housing Corporation is a citywide not-for-profit with the mission of providing housing and services to low-income domestic violence survivors and others at risk of homelessness. New Destiny owns and manages affordable rental housing that serves domestic violence survivors coming directly from shelter as well as other low-income families. On-site voluntary services are available to tenants to help them remain stable in permanent housing, violence-free, and economically secure.

New Destiny is seeking a full-time Children and Family Services Coordinator for its Family Support Program. The successful candidate will work with the Housing Services Director to maintain and grow a robust program at four locations in the Bronx and Brooklyn focused on helping children thrive emotionally, physically, and academically; reduce incidents of child abuse and ACS involvement; and promote family unity. This is a full-time position requiring one late night a week (e.g., 11:00 am to 7:00 pm) and occasional weekend hours. The Children and Family Services Coordinator will co-supervise the Child Activities Specialist with the Tenant Support Coordinators at each site, and will report directly to the Housing Services Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following activities:

Children and Family Services

·      Develop children’s programming in collaboration with the Children’s Activities Specialists and Tenant Support Coordinators, and the families at each site

·      Provide counseling (one-on-one, group and family sessions) and parent workshops

·      Create and implement treatment plans

·      Provide clinical assessments

·      Conduct monthly case conferences with Family Support Program staff

·      Seek additional staffing resources—e.g., social work interns and volunteers

Referral(s) for Children and Family Services

·      Develop and maintain linkages with appropriate health and mental health providers

·      Provide referrals to mental health services

·      Provide referrals to parenting and counseling groups, and to recreational and educational programs

·      Follow-up with schools, clinics and other providers where appropriate

Administrative Activities

·      Prepare monthly reports on program activities

·      Collect and maintain information on children and families (report cards, skills evaluation, surveys)

·      Maintain up-to-date case files

·      Contribute to the development of best practices for the Family Support Program

·      Co-supervise the Children’s Activities Specialist with the Tenant Support Coordinator

Qualifications: MSW, MA, M. ED degree and minimum of 3 to 5 years of work experience in social services setting required. Candidate must have ability to engage children and adults who have experienced homelessness and domestic violence, be empathetic, creative and resourceful. Experience with trauma-informed care approach preferred. Ideal candidate is a person with previous supervisory experience, highly organized, flexible and resourceful. Other requirements include strong communication skills, computer literacy, sound judgment and ability to respond in crises. Salary commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits.
