Position Overview: 

We are looking for a Social Media & Content Specialist to support StartOut’s social media and online engagement strategies to drive our community’s impact. This role would focus on creating social media and blog storytelling tactics for programmatic priorities including StartOut events, programs, member stories, and industry news, amplifying our founder members and partners, and utilizing social media for rapid response.

The Social Media & Content Specialist will create social media toolkits and a daily social media posting schedule for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram, and utilize creative digital storytelling using these platforms. The Social Media & Content Specialist will also put together blog posts and other long form digital content to help engage StartOut’s base and followers, and collect analytics and performance metrics each month. 

The Social Media & Content Specialist will support the Marketing Manager with digital storytelling and social media messaging. They will be focused on ensuring social posts are scheduled daily on every platform and monitoring engagement through comments, shares, and DM’s. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Responsible for management and output on all of StartOut’s social media channels.
  • Maintains the StartOut social media calendar.
  • Researches, implements and manages best-practice strategies for cross-channel social campaigns.
  • Engages collaboratively with the Marketing Manager and Community Manager to request optimized images, video, content, and other material for StartOut and partner posts.
  • Interviews StartOut members for monthly newsletter features. 
  • Writes and posts themed content to StartOut news and blog pages.
  • Maintains StartOut platforms according to approved strategies, including but not limited to: posting content and images and videos, monitoring engagement, handling cross-promotion between platforms and within internal and external teams, as well as executing the approved strategy, and implementing special features.
  • Administers all company social media accounts ensuring up-to-date content, including monitoring user engagement and suggesting content optimization.
  • Keeps current with new digital communication technologies and social media practices.
  • Maintains and populates analytical reporting along with providing actionable insight for each social media channel within the organization.
  • Current StartOut social media platforms/pages include but are not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Medium, and LinkedIn.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors and assesses the social media practices of other partners and organizations.
  • Reports on all social media activity and performance at staff meetings as requested.
  • Prepares relevant reports, slides, and charts as requested.
  • Continually self-trains for best practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to get the job done with exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Highly creative and collaborative
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Academic background in marketing, communications, journalism or relevant experience (bonus points for experience in non-profit)
  • Demonstrated passion for the LGBTQ community and issues
  • 2-3 years of social media management experience
  • Experience with social media management platforms like Hootsuite 
  • Comfortable conducting interviews with StartOut members and partners
  • Experience with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Passion for social impact programs and demonstrates strong intercultural competency
