The Dwelling Place of NY, located in Midtown Manhattan, is a 14-bed, privately funded transitional residence for homeless women sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, NY. Since its founding in 1977, the safe, healing, and structured environment at The Dwelling Place offers women, age 30 and older, space, time, and individualized guidance to develop a sustainable plan for building a healthy, independent lifestyle.

Currently, The Dwelling Place is looking for a full-time female case manager to work in collaboration with the other full-time case manager on site. The case manager is responsible for the individual guidance, ongoing support, and encouragement given to each woman during her stay at The Dwelling Place.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating intake process: phone screen and personal interview
  • Creating and directing a Care Plan with the resident
  • Gathering information for psychosocial assessment
  • Meeting regularly with the client to guide and evaluate progress
  • Communicating with the client’s doctors, therapists, and outside agencies as needed
  • Making necessary referrals for services needed
  • Accompanying a client to appointments as necessary
  • Keeping staff updated on the client’s progress
  • Overseeing the safety of all residents when on duty

Qualifications for Position:

  • A sense of mission and desire to work with the poor, to support and empower women
  • A BS, BA degree or Certification in Social Work, Counseling, or related fields
  • Some experience working with the poor, women in need, or the homeless
  • Effective oral, written, and electronic communication skills; listening skills
  • Flexibility, common sense, and sense of humor
