Description

The Rosie’s Place Senior Advocate for Boston Public Schools (BPS) will provide supervision to school collaborative advocates and one-on-one advocacy to the women whose children attend one of the Boston schools in collaboration with Rosie’s Place. The successful candidate will provide guests with a myriad of services including information and referrals to appropriate resources, consistent with Rosie’s Place mission, philosophy, and policies. Our goal is to ensure assistance with dignity, respect, and compassion within the community.


HOURS: 

Mon-Fri 10am-6pm


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Meet with guests on-site in Boston Public Schools, primarily in underserved and poverty stricken communities such as Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, South Boston etc.

• Provide one-on-one advocacy and assistance with accessing services, resources and referrals for needs such as: transportation, clothing, food pantries, DTA and other governmental offices, emergency shelter, housing and other community resources

• Supervise up to 3 school collaborative advocates who provide advocacy support in schools and the on-site advocacy call center

• Attend meetings at Rosie’s Place and in the community to maintain an up-to-date understanding of community resources as well as current regulations and requirements for obtaining public benefits, housing and other services

• Maintain accurate detailed records on guests in our database. Ensure confidentiality when handling all aspects of guests’ information/documents

• Train school collaborative advocates on database entry. Conduct regular audits to ensure proper usage. Run regular database reports

• Communicate with staff any scheduling or policy changes within Rosie’s Place school collaborative department

• Supervise and maintain petty cash log and funds, ID and birth certificate funds, eviction prevention funds, Charlie tickets and Stop and Shop cards

• Sign purchase orders for School Collaborative staff, including contractors. Work with School Collaborative Manager to develop annual program goals

• Assist in coordinating events and groups/workshops for families in each school

• Maintain a strong collaboration with school staff, community members, guests and partnering organizations

• Attend events and meetings hosted by the school to promote Rosie’s Place services

• Report directly to the School Collaborative Manager and perform any additional duties as assigned by the Manager


QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bilingual Strongly Preferred: Haitian Creole/English or Spanish/English

• Proven ability to work independently, creatively, flexibly and prioritize within a high demand environment and a team player 

• Bachelor’s degree or 5 years work experience in Human Services or Related field will be considered in lieu of four year degree

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in staff supervision

• Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, traditions, customs and personalities

• Strong communication and organizational skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) 

• Understanding of and commitment to addressing issues affecting poor and homeless women

• Applied experience with crisis intervention regarding issues such as mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence and homelessness

• Willing to be trained in Rosie’s Place supervision philosophy or expectations

• Must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT :

• Job is performed in a general school/office environment

• Day-to-day work includes paper and computer work as well as interaction with staff, guests and volunteers

• The position requires travel between facilities and community locations

• Occasional evening work-related events
