WE’RE LOOKING TO HIRE A STRATEGIC COMMS CONSULTANT READY TO ROLL INTO CAMPAIGN MODE AS WE TAKE THE CLIMATE CLOCK TO COP26 (NOV 1-11)

BACKGROUND:

The Climate Clock — a collaboration of scientists, artists and activists — launched in September 2020 and immediately made waves across the globe, focusing the world’s attention on our critical time window for climate action. In the wake of its viral launch we have received a flood of interest from around the world from both major institutions and grassroots teams who want to set up clocks in their cities to pressure decision makers to raise their climate ambitions. We are scaling up to meet that demand and are hiring for several positions including a Director of Communications, described below.

Position: Strategic Communication Consultant for COP26.

Start Date: TBD—accepting and reviewing applications on a rolling basis. Through November 30.

Hours: 20 to 25 hrs/wk @ $30/hr on contract basis

Long-Term Potential: If this short-term hire works out, candidate would be strongly considered for a long-term Director of Communications position.

TASKS:

  • Lead the Climate Clock’s strategic communications efforts, across traditional, creative & social media
  • Identify media opportunities and devise creative media strategies
  • Cultivate strong connections and relationships with key media contacts
  • Collaborate with Communications Lead and Executive Team to pitch and land stories
  • Develop media toolkit for overall project, as well as for specific campaigns and events
  • Identify marketing opportunities and build associated strategy, including email marketing, sponsored social media posts, traditional media, etc.
  • Manage and support our Communications Lead and a volunteer social media team to amplify stories and build project’s online presence
  • Build the capacity and infrastructure of a global communications team, and manage that team
  • Work with Strategy Team to help members of our global network become effective spokespeople
  • Work closely with Communications Lead, Executive Team, and our circle of creatives to produce videos and other creative media
  • Lead any needed crisis communications management and preemptive planning efforts
  • Develop and implement strong quality controls for all external communications
  • Be a core spokesperson for the project; represent the Climate Clock in media appearances
  • Be part of a leadership team rapidly scaling up a small startup group into a larger, international network 
  • Participate in bi-weekly zoom gatherings of wider global network
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Participate in weekly Directors meetings and contribute to the organization’s leadership

DESIRED SKILLS: 

  • Ideal candidate is well-versed in the climate space, and brings their own rolodex of press contacts.
  • 5 years strategic communications experience, ideally in a social movement setting
  • Extremely well-organized; self-starter; detail oriented.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills; a natural in front of the camera
  • Familiar w Slack, Zoom, WhatsApp, ActionNetwork CMS, ClickUp and other online comms & project management tools
  • Adept at key social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok
  • Comfortable working remotely as part of a virtual, internationally-distributed team
  • Sensitivity and skills fostering inclusion and building group cohesion
