Powerhouse Workshop is a contemporary arts center and art fabrication facility established to serve the needs of working artists. Scheduled to open in 2020, the Powerhouse Workshop will provide industrial fabrication shops, a materials library, and flexible space for exhibitions, installations and public programs—supporting investigation, experimentation, and collaboration across media and disciplines.

Powerhouse is seeking a Financial Manager to support the Director of Finance and Administration and help with the creation ongoing development of the Powerhouse financial operations. The Financial Manager will play a support role in shaping the future of this vibrant new cultural center.

The role of the Financial Manager will evolve as the Powerhouse project develops. Candidates should be excited by the opportunity to shape and expand the position. Areas of responsibility range from big-picture financial planning and strategy to detailed bookkeeping and reporting, and will include:

- Financial processing using QuickBooks or similar software, including all accounts payable and receivable

- Manage organizational cash flow

- Oversee financial human resources tasks, including submitting and managing payroll, managing staff benefits, tracking staff schedules and time off, maintaining personnel files, managing financial components off on- and off-boarding of employees

- Implement and maintain organizational policies, procedures and internal controls to ensure compliance with government, insurance, donor and other requirements

- Prepare 1099 and 1096 forms, annual insurance audits, etc.

-Financial management of restricted and unrestricted grants and loans

- Prepare regular financial reports for the Director of Finance and Administration, Executive Director, and Board of Directors

- Prepare materials for annual financial audits in collaboration with financial advisors

- Prepare materials for annual organizational budget process and periodic revisions

- Work closely with multiple production workshops to manage and maintain systems for generating and tracking all estimates and invoices

- Manage collection and quarterly filing of Sales Tax, and other government reporting


- Experience working in a not-for-profit start-up environment

- Experience coordinating audit activities, managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable, general ledger and payroll

- Experience working in a retail and/or production invoicing environment

- Experience or interest in testing new accounting and invoicing applications is a plus

- Organized, detail oriented, able to work independently and as part of a team

- Flexible, creative, resourceful, interested in problem-solving

- 5+ years of experience in finance

- Proficient in financial software and accounting systems such as QuickBooks, MS Office, Google applications

- Finance or Accounting degree a plus
