Job Purpose:

We’re seeking a Regional Director who will oversee and provide leadership for The Bail Project’s (TBP) operations spanning the states of Louisanna, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and North and South Carolina (geographic make-up of the region subject to change). The Regional Director will play an influential role in the hiring, management and development of a high-performing team of Operations Managers and ensure the achievement of desired program and quality outcomes across southern sites. The Regional Director reports to the National Director of Operations and will have three direct reports (expanding to five or six direct reports later in 2021) who oversee up to three TBP sites each. The ideal candidate is a resilient, self-reflective and passionate leader, with program management and data analysis skills, and experience working in fast-paced, results-focused, and dynamic environments.

To excel in this role, you likely bring the following:

  • You have deep familiarity with the criminal legal system (through education, criminal justice work, and/or personal experience with the system)
  • You have roots in the American south or significant experience working in the region
  • You value and understand the importance of meeting program performance and policy goals and have experience catalyzing a remote team to reach these; you’re diligent and hold yourself and others accountable to deadlines and outcomes despite operating complexity and challenges
  • You have a demonstrated track record of managing a large team, ideally in different geographies
  • You have experience building, managing, training, and growing a diverse team and in developing trusting relationships with individuals with a range of experiences and strengths; you enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues to develop solutions to improve staff performance and satisfaction
  • You have experience and skill in building external partnerships to meet client needs
  • You are committed to, have experience with, and enjoy coaching staff to achieve professional development goals and embrace their leadership potential
  • You’re a strong communicator (written, verbal), comfortable with leaning into conflict, and have experience engaging and persuading a diverse array of stakeholders to work with TBP
  • You’re able to identify potential challenges before they arise, conduct diagnoses, and offer and implement (and/or coach others to do so) potential solutions when needed; you have experience developing processes to address operational challenges
  • You’re well organized and able to manage multiple workstreams and adjust priorities on the fly
  • You’re very comfortable with technology, including using Google Suite, running and analyzing reports in Salesforce, and you strive to nurture the technical expertise of those you manage
  • You are motivated by delivering desired program results that are documented in Salesforce and learning how you can improve them by reflecting on data and feedback from staff and clients
  • You demonstrate deep dedication to achieving personal, team and organizational goals through allocating time effectively, analyzing data consistently, and having thoughtful, open, and, if necessary, tough feedback conversations with staff
  • You have a deep commitment to racial and economic justice

Essential Responsibilities

  • Ensure implementation of the TBP model with fidelity and exercise accountability for program and financial performance of sites within the southern region; work with Ops Managers to develop repeatable and scalable processes for all key site activities (i.e., identifying, interviewing and posting bail for clients; supporting clients during their cases; closing cases, collecting bail refunds and contesting forfeitures); codify and document such processes by ensuring all sites have an up-to-date Path of a Case and standard operating procedures
  • Implement organizational directives and ensure organizational policies and procedures are consistently followed, but are locally adapted and responsive; ensure bail out decision making is documented for learning purposes and can be explained thoughtfully by staff if a client crisis occurs
  • Build staff capacity (i.e., talent, training, resources) at each office and as a regional team through coaching, training, and learning sessions to ensure managers become skilled at optimizing site processes and collecting and using data to manage to service completion goals and client outcomes
  • Nurture and maintain a culture of performance by holding oneself and others accountable for program results through problem solving/solution building and frequent data review and analysis with managers; identify examples of high performance and innovation in the region and seek to replicate it elsewhere
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and constituents to support sites in meeting client needs and achieving policy/advocacy and fundraising goals
  • Identify areas of growth for direct reports and coordinate professional development opportunities that build pathways for leadership within and outside of the organization; pursue mastery of applying the breakthrough action leadership principles personally and with colleagues

Qualifications:

  • You have the ability to travel to support your team
  • You live in the South or you are open to relocating there
  • You are currently a manager and have demonstrated experience in program management
