Bronx Documentary Center
The Bronx Documentary Center (BDC) is a non-profit gallery and educational space; our mission is to share documentary photography, film, and new media with underserved Bronx communities and the cultural community at large. We use these mediums to foster dialogue around contemporary local, national, and global issues. We also provide education programs for middle and high school students and a professional education program for Bronx-based artists that provide opportunities for training in documentary photography, film, and multimedia storytelling.
Community engagement is integral to the BDC’s mission. We offer free entry to our exhibitions and we organize artist talks, book signings, screenings of documentaries, and more. The community engagement coordinator oversees the day-to-day management of BDC’s two galleries. This includes ensuring that the galleries are well prepared for exhibitions, public programs, space rentals, professional development workshops, and other events that take place in our galleries. Additionally, the coordinator will oversee various events throughout the year including the annual portfolio review and the annual block party.
The coordinator will conduct ongoing outreach to our immediate communities in the Bronx. He or she will also represent the BDC and provide necessary presentations to partner organizations and institutions as needed. Additionally, BDC values community involvement and encourages volunteerism. The coordinator will lead the recruitment and training of volunteers interested in offering their time to the BDC.
Commitment of 24 hours, including availability on Saturdays 10-6pm is required. Due to changing/flexible needs of BDC, it is understood that additional hours may be required, and flexibility in arrival and departure time may occur. Overseeing an occasional evening or weekend event will be included in this worker’s responsibilities. This position is available ASAP.
