Position Purpose

This position serves as a key liaison and facilitative resource to the DC Bar Foundation’s networks, including the DC Legal Aid Transformations Network, the Racial Equity Learning Network, the Family Law Learning Network, and the Landlord-Tenant Legal Assistance Network. The Community Network Manager drives the growth and development of existing and emerging networks with the goal of transforming civil legal aid to ensure a fair and equitable legal experience for every resident.

Essential Job Functions

Network Management

  • Lead the creation of DCBF’s network development and evaluation strategy
  • Work with members to identify, clarify, and periodically revisit the network purpose
  • Facilitate member development and periodically evaluate and realign network priorities, tasks, and activities to advance network effectiveness and results
  • Counsel network members on how to align results with strategic planning efforts and program work to achieve greater synchronicity
  • Facilitate data collection necessary for assessing and evaluating effectiveness of network activities
  • Identify favorable opportunities which members can pursue to address and resolve critical issues
  • Locate, help secure, and budget financial and other resources needed to support network operations
  • Facilitate ways to refresh and renew network capabilities, functions, and focus
  • Initiate projects and processes beyond established practices while motivating others to adapt to the changing environment

Relationship Development

  • Drive network member communication, information sharing, interest clarification, and identification and resolution of differences
  • Utilize a sincere appreciation for people and how they’re motivated to design and implement interactive relationships and decision-making processes
  • Support members with interest negotiation, conflict resolution, meeting management, and other critical skills
  • Guide and support efficient interactions and relations among members engaged in network tasks
  • Support the identification and recruitment of new members, helping orient and integrate them to the network’s history, agreements, decisions, challenges, and requirements
  • Enlist support of others by using a “selling” rather “telling” communication style

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s preferred)
  • Four years of professional work experience handling duties comparable to those outlined above
  • Extensive knowledge of networks, how they function, and how they help organizations achieve common goals
  • Strong conflict identification, negotiation, and resolution skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as an engaging, enthusiastic, and empathetic communication style
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate a variety of activities and resources
  • Self-confident, natural leader with the ability to successfully influence, persuade, and motivate people to obtain buy-in and commitment of others
  • Socially poised with the capacity to succeed in complex, inter-organizational settings among groups with differing interests
  • Flexible workstyle and demonstrated ability to adapt to changing work demands
  • Problem solver with sound judgment, professional maturity, and the ability to meet adversity with tenacity
  • Proactive and able to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high pressure environment
  • Highly driven, self-motivated, and results-oriented with enthusiasm for change and the Foundation’s commitment to ongoing evolution and improvement
  • Ability to utilize available tools and resources and ask relevant probing questions
  • Ability to independently write, edit, and produce high-quality deliverables
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Comfortable taking complete ownership of all strategic, tactical, and administrative duties of the position
  • Knowledge of the civil legal aid field preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity and diversity

Work Environment

This is a professional role based in Washington, DC, and will require work to be performed remotely and within the office space. The position involves frequent use of computers, phones, and virtual meeting platforms. The role may require periodic work outside of regular business hours, as well as occasional local travel.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to safely and successfully perform the essential functions of this job consistent with federal, state, and local standards, including meeting productivity standards.
